I thought it was going to be Maric, how silly of me to get my hopes up.

Good luck to Martin if he gets a game, I guess there's been quite a lot of upside to such a poor season.

We're blooding plenty of youngsters who are showing they can match it with the best (even if it's only for a quarter or two).

Record membership even though we've got one win on the board.

We've got Jimmy Stynes and Paul McNamee on board and we seem to be generating a lot more positive media exposure.

However I don't mind the idea Bailey has of giving Martin a go on Brown BUT Matthew Warnock MUST get the job at some stage during the game.

Also, Valenti doesn't play, I cry.

I'm not sure if it's a good idea to throw him in for his first game and play him on Jonathan Brown. But if Bailey thinks he can do it, then why not?

But I would rather have Warnock on Brown.

if Bradshaw misses again i think we'll be to tall down back.

last time we played the lions it was the small forwards and midfielders who tore us a new one, Bradshaw only chipped in once the game was over

by our performances over the last 3 weeks this would be a 50/50 ball game.

50/50 as in we'll be competitive for half the match, and go missing the other half?

if we put 4 quarters together we're a big show... having said that there's no indication that it's going to happen this week...
we can't afford to be smashed in the first quarter like at manuka...

If they go with Brown, Henderson and Clark we could play Martin, Warnock and Frawley with Garland playing small or he could go forward, it might not be great for his development but he looks good forward. It might be a bit early but the more games we can get into 4 key defensive options whilst Rivers is injured the better (side note thank god Carroll isn't in line for a recall, keep getting suspended chopper). Bode could make way pretty easily for Martin! Whelan and Bartram are going pretty well at the moment so they should hold Corrie and Hooper to a lot less than last time we played them, and CJ and Garland are good back up options.

Also whilst I don't like it I presume Bailey will continue the 3 ruckman with PJ forward tactic, the problem I have with it is that Miller and PJ (and Bate) all look comfortable playing up the ground but our real problem against most sides (not Sydney) is not getting the ball up the ground - we can do that - but converting it and PJ doesn't help this.

I'd like to include one of Morton/Valenti/Buckley in the midfield, but the midfielders are all going ok at the moment and besides the first quarter were good against Sydney. I can't see McLean, Green, Wheatley, Bruce, Jones, McDonald or Dunn being dropped for one of the forementioned trio.

Sylvia Miller Wonaeamirri
Davey PJ Bate
Green McLean Wheatley
Bartram Warnock Garland
Whelan Martin Frawley
Foll: White McDonald Dunn
Int: Jamar Jones Bruce CJ
Emer: Buckley, Morton, Valenti

Martin has only been in the best once this year, and if you read the article andy lovell said he has taken a few steps back this year. I do not think it would be a good idea to play him and if he does get a game then frawley would most likely be dropped.

I haven't seen a lot of Martin but is it fair to compare him to a Dustin Fletcher body type?

Are you asking if he has a hunch-back? No, you'd not find him in the bell-tower next to dustin

I've only seen him play once, but he was handing out ties at the membership tent when i got mine, he looks like what you expect a solid basketball type to look like. He could barely fit in the little tent, pretty broad shoulders, looks muscular but not overly bulky.

I've said it before, i'm happy to not see Martin play this year and for him to continue to develop at Sandy. He's not played a lot of footy, so better he learn the game at Sandy then he can get experience in the AFL next year. I wouldn't want Bailey to bring him in then him have a Zac Dawson type experience which effectively ruins his career.

I agree with saj too, if he comes in that means frawley probably gets dropped. Next year with Rivers back and Martin pushing for selection, we have a choice of Rivers, Garland, Warnock, Frawley and Martin. Rivers is an automatic selection and the others i guess depend on form. But in reality we can only have 3 of those in the backline. So i really think that while Rivers is out this year we need to give Frawley every chance to find himself a spot in the backline.

It's going to be a nice problem to have though, as opposed to having Carroll, Rivers and Miller if someone is injured.

All that said, Warnock and Garland both need the experience just as much as Martin does, both have still only played 12 games each and playing on arguably the best power forward in the league should be invaluable experience for whoever takes him.

Bring him in and put Garland forward...he was drafted as one, and his confidence would be a lot higher than at the start of the season, so i'm sure he'd perform well.

Think Maric is injured still.

It is probably Melbourne's long term vision of Garland to be a forward, but at the moment he is playing great footy down back!

Good luck to Stef if he gets a game. Has been working really hard this year and if he gets the call up it is well deserved.
