Another grateful refugee story

I sort of admire the Japanese ...they do send peace keeping forces around the world and put money into overseas aid... while helping poorer countries they dont seem to import their problems through immigration....generally they are good world citizens(whaling aside), and they attempt to keep their national identity strong.....for a country with tiny immigration they have a very strong economy, which flies in the face of what multiculturalists say about immigration needed to expand your economy.

Yes, Japan really keeps it's identity strong, went from a Feudalist, emperor state based on agriculture to a democratic, consumerist nation based on American products and industries. Really protect their identity. Go to Tokyo, you see more of America there than Japan.

Yet you led the cheerleading for one poster claiming non English speaking migrants were a success based on his family's experience.
I've got a feeling his post might have been a little more substantial than that. Please, dig it up and prove me wrong.

I think his point is that this guy is a refugee....we have enough low lifes already living here.... they should be screened more carefully, this appears as usual to go straight over the top of your understanding.

Screened for what exactly???? Do u expect the guy to have "I AM A POSSIBLE RAPIST" emblazoned on his forehead? This isn't a police state yet with the thought police arresting/deporting people for crimes they may commit. He committed a disgusting crime. Was arrested. Was tried and convicted and sentenced appropriately. The same would have happened if he was white, aboriginal, asian or inuit!

Perhaps a superior solution might be to let one side win the war, impose its strict rule to attain some social order, and then try to use diplomatic means to address the issue. This is generally what our group first Asian neighbours think. They realise the long-term benefit of the group in their refugee's home country might be best served by not accepting a few individuals.
What a pity the Sudan doesn't have any oil. I'm sure the 'coalition of the willing' would be prepared to finish the war one way or another then. Instead the Fed Govt eases its social conscience by accepting a handful of displaced refugees, as the war rages on in Iraq.

I admire the Japanese as well. Like most first world countries, they appreciate that diversity of ideas is a strength, however, that they have a more effective way of harnessing that strength. One way is through the education system. They send scholars, and university students out to study in other countries learn, and then bring their skills and knowledge back to Japan. They also encourage foreign teachers to come to Japan.

In business, they have lots of fact finding travel. By fact finding travel, I mean serious fact finding travel, not a tax deductible holiday.

Australia is very different. Very few Australian university students complete their degree, or part of their degree, in other countries. Furthermore, our universities are quite anally retentive when it comes to recognizing the qualifications of academics from Asian countries, so few of them can teach here. Furthermore, few Australians ever leave Australia to live in a foreign country, and experience a diverse way of life.

The end consequence is that many Australians will make a lot of noise about how they hate racism, but they are very close-minded. With an immigration policy the way it is, many Australians become focused on reducing conflict, or showing ‘tolerance’, not learning from others. You see a lot of it on this board with these left-wing posters who elevate themselves as the defenders of Africans, Asians, or Aborigines, but don’t actually know the first thing about African, Asian, or Aboriginal culture. When they do learn something, such as how Asians are group focused, they reveal their prejudices by likening the thinking to Stalin or Hitler.

It is a shame because you people in Sydney and Melbourne have serious problems with your trains, and a lot of local Asian knowhow that could probably fix the trains, but you just can’t harness that knowhow. These public servants need to recognize their intellectual deficiencies and ask Asians how it is done. Sadly, the focus is on tolerance, not learning and so the problem continues.

A country is allowed to evolve you know. In manga, love hotels, Yoshinoya, karaoke, hello kitty we see new forms of Japanese culture emerge. In clothing, food, temples, and language, we see traditions continue. In values we can see the shaping of foreign ideas so that they have a Japanese feel.

It is sad that some people are so quick to judge, not open their eyes and ears to learn.

The Democrats learnt from Somalia about the problems that emerge when you interfere in a domestic dispute. The Republicans, perhaps blinded by oil, didn’t learn and so invaded Iraq. If they do pull out now, we are going to see some genocide. Joint hatred of the Kurds might be just the thing to convince the Sunnis and ********es to temporary cease hostilities for a spot of ethnic cleansing. Once the cleansing is complete, they may then resume hostilities withe each other.

One thing many don’t appreciate about Saddamn is that his iron rule did actually protect groups from each other. Under Sadamn, perhaps around 3,000 people were dieing a year. Under democracy, around 3,000 people are dieing a month. Under a completely free democracy without American interference, we might see that go up to 3,000 a day. It will probably continue until another Sadamn comes along.

No you go to Tokyo to see what America will be like in 100 years time

Just on that point the Kurds seem to be living trouble free at the moment and are promoting tourism to the area, they are rebuilding and creating tourist areas which is great.

But they have America protecting them. This is a country where the sunnis and shiites may shoot at an American because they are in their nation, but their dislike of Americans is nothing compared to their hatred of the Kurds. Both groups would skin a kurd alive if they had the opportunity such is their hatred for them.
