Anthony Koutoufides versus James Hird

Both players are Champions in their own right, but they are a tad hard to compere to each other...

Kouta has a slightly better ability to tear a game to shreds with his skill, especially from stoppages. i LOVE the way he sticks the ball in one hand and just takes off :)

Hird doesn't run with the ball like Kouta does but he does get his share of clearances with a quick disposal.

Kouta can hold down a Key position better and i have seen him go to FF and just simply take over ( 4 in the Third Q at Optus one day I think ??) whereas Hirdy roams a bit more and provides more Link options and brings others into the game a bit more.

Hirdy hurts on the scoreboard more consisently ( He does playa bit more up forward) but when Kouta plays forward he doesn't do it as often

I f I had to pick one ........ I'm probably biased a bit..... but I don't think that supporters of ANY club would knock back either of them in their team ......Even Now...... and both are probably Past their best consistent football

And both have had their careers greatly hampered by serious collision injuries. God knows what they'd say about Buckley if he'd done 3 knees. Has Buckley ever had an injury?

Is that a serious question?

OK a more reasonable question. He has never had a knee reco. he has had a broken jaw and missed a number of weeks and came back to BOG in Collingwood's first win of 1999. He has has a few leg problems including a knee injury that has troubled him for a number of years. When it really troubles him he only gets 20 opossessions and is generally criticised in some sections while his opponents gets votes. Of course not every below average performance if due to injury though. He hasn't had the severe injuries as far as anyone knows but he plays with injury and performs to a very high level very often. Many players play with injuries. Few are as resilliant as Buckley and as good regardless. Hird and Kouta included. Don't get me wrong, I am not criticising either of them but please don't assume Buckley hasn't had at least the average share of injury over 10 years.

Why would being injury free be frowned upon anyway?

I've heard some ridiculous arguments pertaining to Buckley's ability over the years, but this one just about takes the cake... How anyone could argue that Bucks is not as good as players who have suffered serious injuries is beyond me, the fact that he has performed at the elite level, whilst avoiding injuries for the past 10 years is just another reason why he is the champion that he is.

Its good to see you can avoid injuries!!

Zeke you're jumping at shadows. I wasn't knocking Buckley, just wondering if he'd ever had any serious injuries. Take it easy dude.

HARDNESS !!!

From what rock did you suddenly crawl out from under !!!!

You idiot !!!!

Hird is one of the hardest players going around ... he NEVER shirks the issue and let's see you come back 7 weeks after having your entire facial bones re-constructed !!!

* Goes off to find a bigger rock*

I know that Essendon supporters tend to believe their own publicity machines, but really...take a long hard look and you will see that Hird is one of the biggest receivers in the game. His facial injury was an accident - which none of us would have wanted to have - but it says nothing about his hardness at the ball - which doesn't exist. A skillful player, but never a game breaker except when Essendon are monstering some lowly side. Kouta a better player by a mile.

You sir are an idiot ask any1 who has played the game, Hird reads the play well and has silky skills but his greatest assest IMHO is his ability to do unbelievable things in tight spaces, snap quick goals get off quick handpass etc.

You Obviosuly have never seen Hird play (if u have do so more), honestly no commentator/ journalist/ anyone who has a clue would ever say Hird was soft and no not bescause of his facial injury but because underneath his good looks, well spoken personality lies one of the toughest players in the game. Ask Bereton how tough he thinks Hird is.

See ANZAC day 2003 and first final versus Freo. Hird is a match winer.

You've just proved you know absolutely nothing about football.

Blah, blah & more blah.

BTW my d**ks bigger than yours.

Oh and you Pies supporters, the question was: Is Anthony better than James. The Anthony part is not code for Bucks so give it a rest already. Bucks a champ, Hirds a champ, Voss is a champ & Kouta looked like he was going to be a champ but sadly we didn't see it happen (tho' barring further injury he will still be regarded as a great player).

And to all the responses, if any, to this I will finish with:

Blah, blah & more blah.

Hird over his career, easily Hird now.

As I have said heaps of times, Hird is one of the gutsiest footballers I have seen play the game.

For pure guts, he sits comfortably beside Archer and Stevens IMO.
