Looking to upgrade my desktop Windows 10 PC and couple of Windows 10 Laptops from HDD's to SSD's, tests show the Seagate HDD on my desktop is on it's last legs so while I'm at it I might as well replace the drives in my laptops. I understand you can clone the windows 10 OS and all the files etc using cloning software and then all you need to do is install the new cloned SSD into the computer and then go into the BIOS/Boot Menu and make it the Primary drive and your away? Can anyone recommend what is the best Cloning software, some I've heard mentioned are Acronis True Image, Partition Wizard Mini Tool and EasUs TODO?

I am probably too late with my response, but this reddit may be worth a read. The free version of Macrium Reflect seems like it would suit your needs.

You must have extra sensory perception because I had a few little problems using Acronis True Image that came free with the Crucial SSD's I purchased on my desktop so I did indeed use the Macrium Reflect Free version on my 2 laptops and found it so much easier to use and the cloning went like clockwork. I must admit I cheated a little using a couple of tutorials that people had posted on Youtube. The difference the SSD's make to start up and performance are simply amazing and I'd recommend anyone using Windows upgrading their old HDD's to SSD's before they think about getting a new computer.

Yes, I added a 1Tb SSD to my latest pc upgrade. The boot up time is very impressive. Unfortunately my motherboard wasn't capable of accepting a M.2 SSD otherwise that would have been the go. M.2 SSD can be up to 10 times faster than a standard SSD. Here is some info if you are interested.

I'd like to help you out but whenever I've installed an SSD, I've always done a fresh install of windows 10 because I've heard cloning can sometimes be unreliable.

Yes SSD's are freaking awesome and should be a standard component in any build. It's been this way for 10 years now. NVMe drives are way faster still but all that extra speed probably wouldn't be utilised by a large portion of consumers. They kind of have specific use cases where they come in handy. The standard SSD is still good for most people.

And a lot of older desktops and laptops don't have the M.2 slots though you can get around that on some computers using the PCle slot and an adapter card which retail for around $30.

I've only done limited upgrades [1 desktop and 2 laptops] and honestly the free version of Macrium Reflect makes cloning a breeze even when cloning from a larger HDD to a smaller SSD and there's plenty of tutorials on Youtube to guide you if you're uncertain.

I'm usually I'm just reinstalling a few apps and my steam account so I've never really needed to clone my drive.

So for IT gurus, how is it I can text about something and then it adds in my Facebook feed and can anything be done about it?

Happens on here too, I’ll search something on line and then I’m seeing pop up banners about it on here.

Its all algorithms and the fact the law allows companies to sell such data from your searches.

You can use the "private browsing" option on your phone or web browser or what I tell most people is to use Mozilla (Firefox)

I primarily use Mozilla (firefox) and I have everything turned off no history, no cookies etc

Chrome is the worst browser for data collection and ads etc. Also don't even bother with Microsoft Edge either, Edge is based off of Google Chromium so it's essentially no different to using Chrome Some of the ads I'm imaging that you're seeing would be Google Adsense, Adsense basically creates ads for whatever sites you've been to like ebay or any online stores that pay for adsense and you wsee ads for them while you're browsing.

Best advice is to ditch Chrome and give Firefox a try. The other advantage with Firefox is that a lot of the malware out there has been specifically written to target exploits in Chrome so there's much less chance of them infecting your PC if you're not using Chrome.

Thanks but it’s a work computer and they are restrictive with what we use

What about on iPhones?

Ummm not 100% sure, I haven't had an IPhone for nearly 10 years now.

I switched over to Android and have never come back. Are you still locked with only being able to use Safari on Iphones or do they now allow you to use other web browsers?

I use Firefox on my phone which has most of the same type of controls in place to block cookies etc that the PC version does.

Not sure, I’ll need to investigate

I use Firefox as my browser on my IPhone ....you can also use Google Chrome

Only issues I have is software upgrade compatibility between IPhone / One-Drive / Windows Laptop .....as each upgrade their software, there can be compatibility issues for a few months, till they all catchup .....mainly impacts my image / contacts syncing

Seems complicated ?

I just have all my working files resident on One-Drive .....should be a copy of Windows 10 on your HD ....backup to either one-drive or an external HD

Put your SSD in ....transfer files back & reload Windows 10 .....not sure why you need cloning software ?

Missus and I were in BCF and happened across the kayaks. Stopped for 5 minutes and I told her about fishing kayaks. Which I’d seen in here from bald and broke. Anyway, we’re not 2 minutes down the road and she’s got kayaks on her FB feed. Our phones are listening and reading at all times.

No, it was relatively easy actually using Macrium Reflect.

I’ve got wireless Internet through Uniti and am considering changing to NBN. I can get to the kerb but an upgrade to the home, but they are going to have to dig up my lawn and part of path around the house, so I’m not keen for that.

Speed to the kerb is 50mps which is the same as my wireless. Only considering changing due to issues with wireless lately.

Anyone got to the kerb and is it ok?
