Personally I reckon we did, games like Sydney we had no right to win and it was only through how terrible they were that we got in it. I just reckon that we probably won't improve next year all that much, which really in the grand scheme of things sets us for a 15 finish.
All's I'm saying is don't let the the October propaganda of MT believe that it's gonna be finals next year.

Dovetailed with: Did this place used to be better when it was full of the oxx's, delib's etc of the world and there usual rants or now with the thought out, intelligent conversations held. I preferred the old board, Fish was a neurotic douchebag....Vonsche with the GIF win....RFCTA was gay....PHX went by another name and wasnt a mod....certain people were banned from mentioning JON....crazy days....

Dovetailed with: If you haven't been here long enough to answer part 2, or have already fallen under the charismatic spell of MT and his no doubt crazy targets then here's a story about ducks. Enjoy

Dont believe in the over achieving concept but I think you can win more of the close ones than lose them and the difference looks huge.

Sometimes those games are all up in the air to the final minutes where things can go for you or against you.

If you take Sydney,Brisbane and Fremantle wins, these games were determined over ten minutes of football. Had we lost all three then people would not be so optomistic about us.

2001 was a classic case of so called 'over achieving' because we won many close ones where had we lost we would have been ninth again.

Well you can say we didn't deserve to beat Sydney, but I would argue that we deserved to beat Hawthorn.

Even if we didnt win a game I would have still been satisfied with the development the guys took this year. The transformation from that opening game against Carlton to our end of year form was great in my opinion.

I think the common consensus is that results aren't our primary concern for seasons 2010 and 2011. As long as we improve and play kids then we are on the right track. :thumbsu:

Sensible thinking TG, but this is the RFC and let's face it the whole results thing is hardwired in. Whether we like it or not if we don't go up 1 rung on the ladder next year then the media/fan driven negative will be born.

was going to add my two bobs worth but what the heck people willust say typical claws being negative.

we beat freo with about half their team out at a stage when they were shot. we beat sydney but other than these two and the circumstances who did we beat.
ive said before and will say again you could count on your hands the amount of times we have beaten eventual top 8 sides since wallace arrived.

when we play em at full strength and theres something on the line and we start pushing them to their limit or beating them then that would be a bloody good indicator of us becoming very competetive and entering another stage of development, that is if we do it on a regular basis.

Mmm... Well we also COULD have won the first Freo and Adelaide games if we could play 4 quarters, the Essendon 1st qtr cost us that game, Hawthron game we could've won aswell. I don't think you can come 15ht and over achieve.

Well if we are going to look at What If's then what would have happened if we beat Hawthorn and had the luxury of playing Essendon, West Coast and Brisbane twice? We probably could have pipped Port Adelaide in Round 22 and the Saints the week before too. We'd be looking at finals!

So lets not worry about what if's. That Sydney game where we came back and won would have turned into a 60+ point thumping if we were playing them earlier in the season. We probably would have caved against Fremantle and Brisbane too. That alone speaks alot for our development throughout the year. :thumbsu:

Curiously enough an anagram of "we we're 15th" is "we we're 5h1t".

Next year will be another transition year. Like many I feel we are heading in the right direction, I just don't expect to see evidence of it in the win/loss columns soon.

Dovetailed with this: I don't think we overachieved, our ladder position is an accurate reflection of where we are at in terms of development of our list.

Damn straight we overachieved. We had so many first year players this year that will find it all the more harder next year. We were extremely lucky this year, we won all our games against interstate teams, we still cant beat a Melbourne team - dont underestimate that.

Every chance we could go back to being a laughing stock again... Wouldnt bank on us being able to win more than 5 games.

At the start of last season I had us pencilled in for 6 wins, we ended the season on 6 wins, so IMO we achieved what I wanted out of the year. Did we beat Freo when they were shot yes, but let me ask this, when we're shot do teams think oh no that doesn't count because Richmond weren't at full strength. You can only beat the team you're playing on a particular weekend.

Hahaha we have a winner!

2nd last on the ladder is hardly over-achieving no matter how you try and spin it, its a true reflection of where we're at.

Having said that I'm very optimistic of our future with Dimma at the helm.

On amother train of thought.....did we underachieve given we lost the hawks, pt adelaide, essendon and melb games?

Should we have scarped into the finals ?

Would we have beaten Carlton?

Could we have won the cup?

You are in the TWILIGHT ZONE

the tigs under acheived. we are better than at least 3 clubs. which would put us at 13th.
next year we will be better than just 3 clubs.

I think we achieved . 2011 we will more than likely over achieve and really surprise the football world.

P.s I miss you Tucker and loved your duck story. First class

We won 2 games where the opposition had more scoring shots than us - and the adelaide game we had the same number. I know 'bad kicking is bad football', but we were a bit lucky.

Plus we played Brisbane when they were in complete self-destruct mode and Fev played like a drunk.

Essendon, who everyone seems to be laughing at, beat us handily by about 6 goals, and also beat the saints.

There were some good signs - but we could just as easily finished 2-20.

Did we do surprisingly well in the latter part of the season? Probably, but as they say, good teams win the close games.

But consider that it took us 9 rounds to get going with the new gameplan (etc), and those early games included some thrashings that wouldn't have happened later in the year, and we probably finished up in a worse position than how we finished up playing was 'worth', suggesting we under-achieved.

Doesn't really matter though, the history books will show we finished up in 15th, and all that really matters now is the future.

I said we'll win 5 or 6 games even after our first 7 losses. My so called Tiger friend thought that was hilarious and kept asking who we would beat. He thought it was impossible. But No I was right as usual about how many games we can win . We'll win about 10 games next year. Our list will be scary in 2-3 years :thumbsu:
