I say Davies and Sporn can still potentially have long careers at the club. Sporn has been unlucky with injuries but has shown glimpses and I believe Davies has the talent to impress this year.

I don't see Bannister, Prenda or Wiggo being at the club after next year.

I think Davies is the most talented of the above, Wiggins I think has some attributes that are good, he tries very hard and has a heap of courage. Sporn is useful but nothing special and Prenda tries hard but cant kick well enough or play Key Position.

Bannister is an interesting one as he does have some ability but just doesnt make a big enough impact at senior level, will be interesting to see how he goes this year.

Davies has the most unfulfilled talent. Watching him play VFL last year...he certainly seems passionate about the game.

Bannister might be suited to a back pocket, forward flank. Certainly looked at home in the backline in VFL finals. Don't think he has the reactions and decision making for a midfield role. He basic skills are good when he has time to anticipate things. Might get a chance if Livo or Saddington go down. If he bulks up a bit and retains his speed he might be handy...at least until the draftess are tough enough to play AFL.

Sporn - going to struggle for a spot with likes of Walker, Simpson, Russel, McGrath still on the list.

Wiggins and Prenderghast - both going to struggle just because of skill levels. There main asset is as crash and bashers. O'Hailpin will compete for that spot this year.

I'd add Teague as another who might be on the fringes by the end of this year.

Going against the grain, I like Prendergast. Crash and Bash type guy, always works hard and competes, which is more than can be said for others in our team. I'd stick him as a secondary CHF next to Whitnall in a similar role to what Aaron Hamill played, with instructions to hit the packs hard and try to keep the ball in the area. There's no doubt Whitnall's effectiveness has dropped since Hamill left, he needs a similar type there to protect him from athletic guys jumping over the top and to put enforce pressure on defenders going the other way.

Davies, Bannister, Wiggins can go. Not much talent and had their chances but haven't delivered. Sporn could be a handy back pocket type and has shown a bit, so deserves another chance or two.

I believe all of them have something left to give. Whether they will or not is the issue. I remember seeing very good games from all of them that made me think that they should push on from there.

Davies is a cert to continue on. He has the potential to become a really fantastic player, I can see people anticipating him, "daviieeees!" A future ratten, williams. I remeber these blokes took time to develop, people wrote them off and traded (one of) them. Now Ratten and others on our coaching team are saying he will be very good. I can see why people have written him off, hopefully these same people can also see that sometimes people take longer to develop.

Sporn I dont know seems like a yesteryear type player (glascott).

Wiggo has apparanty gotten bigger, and I have seen him under a couple of packs ripping the ball out of other players arms DESPERATE to get it.....(collingwood).

Prendergast might have been superceeded by talent.

Teague is just too courageous to let go.

Sporn didn't look like a dud before last season, and I still can't understand why he played so badly. He's better than that.

He needs to put 2005 behind him (who doesn't?). Train hard. Get his body right, and his fitness up. If he gives everything he has to football, then I reckon there may yet be a future for him.

Yeah I like Sporn too, has shown glimpses and has got good disposal, if he can get over the injuries then he might just have a little bit left to give.

Prendergast: Terrific bloke. Very fit. Terrific bloke. Very fit. Terrific bloke. Very fit...... Just not a footballer.

Sporn: To small to play as a KPP or even as the third tall down back. Lacks pace off the mark and has really poor hands and has lost complete confidence in his body. Not a midfielder and not fit enough to play a run with role. Used to have okay skills but even those left him in 2005. I dont think he is going to be on the list after this year. Has shown something in the past but think his body is not up to AFL standard now and is not a grunt player or a touch/skilled type. Another in between type. A surprise selection at the time from O'Sullivan and true to standard another waste of a 1st rounder.
Surely they could have traded the first rounder for pick 70 odd and we could have got a better player? :D

Davies : the key to football is doing the basics well over and over. Something that Davies seems unable to master at this stage. Can do the exceptional but will miss sitters in front of goal and turn the ball over. Needs more kgs onto his frame to hold his own in the contest and to understand what being disciplined is. Instead of sniping blokes in the VFL to show how "hard" he is perhaps he could direct his aggression at the ball from now on. Has an immense amount of time in the VFL but a lot of players have that. Yet to show he has the class to step up at AFL level other than in a few passages of play.

Bannister : Whats wrong with him in 2005? He used to have the endurance and mental discipline to play on a player and stick to it. Decent enough skills and good size but completely dropped his bundle last year. His contract saved him. Maybe he thought he had done enough in 2004 and did not put in enough of an effort pre-season. Has always been fit enough. Will never be silky but should have cemented a position on the hbf/run with role where he could take all sizes.

Wiggins : ahhh the 2000 draft. What a goldmine for the Carlton Football club. Livingston, Sporn and Wiggins with pick 4/11/15. The memories. :thumbsd:
Makes you wonder why Wayne Hughes was not brought in well before the 2004 draft to be honest.
Wiggins falls into the Prendergast and terrific bloke class. Really great work ethic and willingness to anything for the team. Play as a tagger or a decoy and show some physicality. Great around the club to encourage the "real footballers". A big body who will provide some help and coverage for the youngsters as they develop in the VFL.
Fumbles to much and you cant teach a player to have good hands. Some dont and no matter how fit they get you cant geta way with that at AFL level.

I feel only Davies and Bannister have anything left at AFL level these days.
Would have Davies in front at this stage.

What do all these players have in common?

1 year left on there contracts.

Realistically, IMO, the only one that has any future is Sporn. He's just had some shocking injuries. Saw him play a blinder on James Hird a few years ago. The rest of them, good at VFL level, just cannot make the jump into AFL level. Expect most of them to be cut at the end of 2005.
