Trying to orgainise a trip to Brisbane to see the Broncos v Storm game on the Anzac Day weekend. Am i right is saying that the NRL has already flagged the Roosters and the Dragons to play on Anzac Day proper (the 25th)? Which in turn means the Broncos-Storm will be on either the Friday, Saturday or Sunday? Can only fly up on the Thursday morning, so it would be pointless going if the Broncos-Storm game was on Anzac Day.
Apologies for the annoying post. Any info would be appreciated.

The NRL is trying to turn St George v Roosters into its traditional Anzac Day match-up. I think you could be fairly sure that this will be the only game on 25/4.

This is the problem with the NRL scheduling system. By giving too much say to the broadcasters, they limit the certainty for fans.

Broncos v Storm looks to be the outstanding match-up of Round 7. Friday night looks to be a pretty good bet at this early stage.

It would not be Bigger then Pies vs Dons at the MCG!

I know the Anzac Day RL test which was played a few days later (on the Friday) in Brisbane got a TV audience of a million & a quarter more than the AFL game played that night.

Here are the OzTam ratings for AFL Anzac day game:

Anzac day AFL

Melbourne 539K
Brisbane 117K
Adelaide 158K
Perth 204K
Total 1043K

Should've kept the Anzac test for that day, it would shyte on anything from Melbourne if they had only stuck with it.

AFL makes the NRL Lookes ********!:D

Have you ever said anything intelligent during your time on BigFooty?
I am lot Smarter then 3/4 of the Morons On Here!

Yes, yes, very true...look Dave we've all accepted that and brushed it aside, in all honesty I feel your somewhat blindsided. Once you get to know some of these RL lads you realise they are only after some love and attention. Have a chat to Spewing, you will be overcome with a need to give the little bugger a hug.
Lets all just be friends...

Anyway, on thread topic, I was just thinking, it will be good for RL if they could get a blockbuster happening, there is a special feeling on Anzac day all about comrade within the team and that fighting spirit.

Essendon VS Collingwood is a real treat to watch and no matter where on the ladder the two are they always play a great match.
Having 90 odd thousand attend a game is incredible and the noise level is high constantly.

Other teams now want a slice of the action on Anzac day but in all honesty it was Ess/Coll idea and they've built it up quite well. They have a good rivalry happening, although there is more hatred between Coll vs Carlton

That said, who is RLs biggest rivalry and can they sustain such a concept?
There must have been two teams that hate each others guts. I've got a feeling rivalry aint that strong or had it been in the past it has waned somewhat. Is that true?

Can't think of his name right now, but that RL chap who was doing some sports reports and had some type of seizures of late...anyway I always remembered him in the 80's as a rough and tough player (just about all I knew of RL) so tell me who did he play for and who would that teams greatest rival be?

Wally Lewis is his name-played for Valleys & Wynnum (called Wynnum-Manly then) in the Brisbane competition-won a few premierships with Wynnum. In the NRL he played for the Broncos & Gold Coast. He was never won a premiership at NRL at level. He also captained Queensland & Australia.

Back to the thread-I posted the TV ratings to show there is not much interest in the AFL game in Queensland & NSW whereas there was huge interest in the test in those states.

The Anzac Test could be played in Brisbane on that day & it could precede the St George & Roosters from Sydney.

Say a 2.30 pm start in Brisbane & the Sydney match could start just after 4pm. The times of the matches could be reversed which might make some sense in the hotter Queensland climate.

The downside would be the Sydney teams would be without there test players.

Yes it is, remembered the name as sonn as I hit post.

What about the two Grand Finalists belting it out on Anzac Day as the main game? Would always get attention/media and there is always interest from the public in the "return game" and there should be plenty of animosity between the sides.

I believe the NRL have got it right regarding a Roosters vs Dragons game. There are games that would attract a few more people on ANZAC day (for example: Brisbane vs insert team here, at Lang Park), but it's good to see them sticking to it.

Why Would that Game Be Big?

Kangaroos could play the Best of the Rest and they'll always get strong tv audiences, but the fact of the matter is, Essendon Collingwood is THE biggest game of the year in any code. TV rights will always favour league(except last yr with Syd-WCE GF the 2nd highest watched sporting event of 06)but crowds will be AFLs domain, before, now and in the future.Have you lot missed me?
