2.) Check the results buddy - MGS do the best out of any school in the state in English. That is a fact. Before you write back, just check the results from last year, the year before that, and the year before that, etc etc.

That's exactly why the AFL stepped in and requested that the game be shifted from our main (where it was scheduled) to the MCG - cos no-one outside MGS or scotch care about it.

this thread wasnt intended to be this way but your skevs mate started the argument back on the first page and then labelled grammar "cheaters" etc etc...said we had no school spirit, said we have only got big crowds this year and said that st kevins has "true" school spirit and grammar has none

if someone said that about any school, of coarse they're going to be pissed off and everyone for their own reasons believes that their school has more "spirit" and whatever (note again that it was not i that started this whole "spirit" business")

then somebody claimed that racism is the same as sledging, so that was argued

and then he claimed that the skevs/xavier rivalry in 2001 got some fantastic crowd and that crowds in the APS are a thing of the past and i claimed that the grammar/scotch rivalry is bigger and better, and its crowds at present are bigger than that very special 2001 match so in my opinion, big APS are not a thing of the past and im sure you guys believe that too by the sound of things

i did not ask for respect once, i just stated bare facts...that is, we have played football for 150 years (as of tomorrow) and thats a big feat in my opinion...obviously not in yours and im fine with that

I think you will find this thread took a different direction after your mate the rotating forward took the bait to some light hearted sarcasium. Although I will agree with you that grammar shows Great Spirit on occasions, it seems to be very inconsistent. School spirit is obviously alive and well inside you as you take the bait at every pot shot at grammar, however I don’t think you are backed by 100% of your school. You talk about the great school spirit at grammar, but why is it you dismiss the importance of rugby when so many of your fellow students are rugby players and fans? If your school was united as you say surely you would see the importance of rugby to your school. I know this is a football forum but other sports say more about a school than just footy. St Kevin’s boys are passionate about there school not just there respective team, that it why it is common to see the 1st football team watch the 1st rugby and then the rugby boys return the favour. Now that is what I call school spirit and mateship, grammar may get some big crowds to the footy this year, but that doesn’t show a united, spirited school to me. The St Kevin’s crowd on a Friday afternoon when the cricket is on is unrivalled by any other school, to the point I was approach by a friend from Xavier who said I wish we got this at home. School spirit is not a switch your turn on once a year for a big game, its something that lives inside you every day. That is why you will hear St Kevin’s boys talk about there unrivalled support at the APS athletics and other events, just to clarify it was 2005 when St Kevin’s was going nuts in the rain as everyone else ran for cover, that year we came 2nd but the following year 2006 in the lovely sunshine the crowd was once again the loudest and proudest as we claimed our first title.

skevs has had the second best results in english (amongst boys schools; selective and non-selective) for the past 5 years. last year for example 40% of study scores in eng were above 40. that is only just behind Melbourne High who had 42%.

revise your facts and stop buying into the propaganda your school feeds you.

and on a final note; i would ask all grammar fellas who have replied to what i have posted on this thread to go over what has been written and ask themselves, "was it really worth it?"
afterall it was a bit of harmless shit stirring (still is), but to you it is some full scale conflict.

i mean i can admire that you boys are keen as mustard to defend your school's honour but it simply adds to the stereo type that melb grammar has no sense of humour preferring to talk about holidays to portsea and and the leather trimming in father's new bentley. something which i would hope you would like to change?

I understand that you get good crowds at the aths and at the cricket which is good to see and i commend your schools for that but dont underestimate the consistency of spirit at our school...there are a broad range of things that MGS does this in and its not only sport

In all drama events, debating, MGS Live, the orchestral concerts, they are all pumped up every week and get huge support.
Just because we havent got the greatest crowds at the aths over the last couple of years (and do not rule that out this year), MGS is not just based around football by no means...and we pride ourselves on NOT making any of these things compulsery...

yet on our biggest event of the year, 90% of the school go anyway..
-At Head of the River for example, for the second year running (and this is from an exterior source) Melbourne Grammar had the highest ratio/percentage of attendance in accordance to school population.

School spirit does live inside our boys and it is probably hard to tell for someone in the outer. You may not know that on any given saturday, our 1st hockey, 1st football, 1st rugby and 1st basketball could all play home games at different venues, some of which are impossible to access by public transport...

this makes it impossible, to use your example, for our first football team to ever watch the first rugby team...however, the majority of the rugby boys make it to the football anyway to support their mates...
unlike skevs, brighton and xaiver, which are all situated in suburban areas with easy access to public transport...mgs is located in the city with the 2nd widest spread of where people live in the APS (to hailebury)...that is, grammar boys are the second furthest spread around greater melbourne..with the majority of people not just coming from one area but east, west, south and north of the school
some people have to take three trams to get to school everyday and they make these efforts for a reason.
My point is, that it is far more difficult for the footy boys to watch the rugby boys and then walk home after their matches...it makes attending some things almost physically impossible yet people go out of their way to support each other.
I do not play football, and the majority of my hockey team all go togethor to watch the football on most saturdays after our games, usually after watching our 1st hockey team...

Yes, football is big at the moment but what do u expect? I havent been to skevs but the buzz around the school before most events like this is amazing...it is NOT just me

Sorry to butt in mate and I'm not on either side, but you cannot seriously claim such a statistic. Have you been through every other APS school, somehow found out every single student that attended, then found the total student population and figured it out? I really doubt that, and I doubt that was a truthful fact, as well as a few you've claimed.

There is now a sporting fixture on the same day as head of the river to prevent large numbers of students attending the event due to previous years throughout the 90's when there was full scale brawls that you make some of you boys loose sleep at night, so I find it amazing that even so you managed to get 90% of your school there, did you forfeit all other fixtures to do so?
I did however love your point about walking home after watching the football matches, cos all St Kevin's boys live in Toorak right, and can just walk home? I think it is fair to say that MGS has a great population of students throughout the Toorak/ South Yarra region. The majority of St Kevin's boys live further away from school than MGS boys but we have the convenience of our train station. It is well known that St Kevin's is one of the most diverse schools because of its location to the train station with the majority of our boys coming across from Essendon and the western suburbs. And as much as I am dying to watch your video I am no in fact a bigpond user so have being denied access. I admire you for your passion son, but you have lost your way in this last post by back peddling and making up facts. Good luck against Scotch, hope to see you at the Athletics with the other 90% of your school.

40% of English study scores above 40. MGS actually organised a bus to pick students up from various other sporting fixtures i.e. the volleyball grand final that was on that day.

No, I thought it was pretty plain to see that I wasn't saying it's not true, but if you don't know that it is a fact for sure, don't try to claim that it is, as you have been doing throughout this thread. Never said anything about discovering them yourself, but if you've got no idea how truthful it is then don't post it as truth.

Going by your theory, I could post anything anybody has told me about any school as being fact, no matter how absurd or unreliable it may be. But I wouldn't, as I am not the moron that you clearly are. The point is; stick to facts. And thanks for the personal attack too, your lack of any genuine knowledge really shows at times.

i am feeling a revival of the skevs vs xavier blockbuster next year.
should be youge down at oval #1 next season.

I popped down to the Roach this year and watched the final qtr.
Was great atmoshpere and the spirit displayed was fantastic.

Hat goes off to both Xavs & Skevs for the manner in which both supporters supported their troups.

This slinging at Skevs from some is BS.

I also watched the Xavs v MGS game in RD1 (?) and it was a tremendous game supported by a huge crowd.
I did notice the drum, but though it added to the atmosphere.

Am keen to watch all 3 teams again in the future

Edar, as you will see from previous posts, I dislike Melbourne Grammar as much as you do. I despise their arrogance and pretentiousness. But, on the question of English results you are wrong, unfortunately. Eight of their students scored 50 while 49% scored 40 or more. These results are consistent with those of 2006. Still, I am not sure that English results are an accurate reflection of School Spirit. Tonight, go Scotch

i didnt mean for it to sound as though mgs got 90% to the head of the river because we didnt...i was trying to say we get 90% to our biggest event of the year which i just got home from today at the G and the atmosphere was better than any athletics event
