Out of contract small forward from dogs

BULLDOG GAINS INTEREST

WESTERN Bulldogs small forward Arty Jones is attracting interest from across the competition after an eye-catching start to 2026.

The 22-year-old served a long apprenticeship at Footscray in the VFL and played in the premiership last year, but has become a regular fixture in Luke Beveridge's team around a concussion and hamstring strain to start the year.

West Coast is understood to be among a handful of clubs in the market for a small forward that are monitoring his contract situation.

The Western Bulldogs have tabled a contract extension to Jones, but the West Australian is yet to put pen to paper.

Arty is a must keep for the dogs. He's become a vital part of the forward line going forward.

Why's that?
He's our cultural glue for the younger guys and because of that the club has backed him in and extended his contract when perhaps, on form, he shouldn't have been. Was basically the last signed last year.

He's come on this year when not injured so cant see us not giving him 2 or 3 years now.

Talented but has a small sample size. Dogs should try and keep him.
If on the market 2nd round would be right.

Would perfectly at either WA club if he wanted to come home. Could probably create a mini bidding war and get a payrise for coming home.

Quickly becoming an A grade small forward. I’m rarely certain a player will re-sign, but I’m pretty close with Arty. Can’t see him going anywhere.

Though clubs will be offering up to 900k if he keeps up this form.

Why are you close to certain when the ITKs are saying there's a good chance he goes? Especially with a WA gf?

No they won't.

Surely not a need for Freo.
They have Bolton, Fredericks, Dudley and Switowski.

If he's after money, it is WC.
Got a feeling he stays though.
reckon he stays too but I reckon w Bolton playing more mid, switta possibly leaving, and Freddy being Freddy, he’d get a game easy

Not ITK at all, but I’d imagine if he goes it would be to Freo. He didn’t want a lick of us when we tried to get him tied to our NGA

Is there a story here that he didn’t like the Eagles staff or something?

not sure to be honest, all I know is that we tried to tie him to the club and he chose otherwise, which is obviously his right.

Other Eagles posters that were around at the time would paint a clearer picture probably

Probably because ppl from the area are pretty big on moving out of the state. Probably wanted to follow his uncles and have the chance to play for a Victorian team. Phil spent a year playing for footscray.

Can't say I've experienced people from the Albany area wanting to leave the state. Lot of family and friends from there that have stuck around but moved to South West and Perth

Actually, he declined to sign with the NGA because he and his mother said the paperwork was too confusing.

Said they wanted them to sign right away after first training at the club and he wanted time to think about it and never ended up signing, which the WCE officials apparently failed to release.

Dewar and Baker were the other 2 with him at the time, both ended up drafted, although Baker was let go a couple of seasons ago.

Jones is going to be more your wing / high half forward type right? Not a genuine small forward?

Cant see Freo being in the game. Scerri at 19 is very promising as first choice depth (and therefore cheaper to back in) and Jones would currently at best be a sideways move on Frederick or Switta.

If he could be presuaded to play off the HBF though...

Poor management to not follow up on him.
