This was one bloke I was a bit worried about during the lead up the Wizard Cup. Had heard too many rumours about his weight, work ethic and so-so relationship with Woosha to simply disregard them as baseless gossip.

Well, last night he helped put my mind at ease. Thought he was fantastic from start to finish. Classy as ever, ran hard, and barely wasted a single one of his possessions.

But, most importantly, he showed terrific versatility. Looked good combining with Wirrpunda down back, and was really impressive during his stints in the midfield.

The only question mark now, is what position he should play to best suit the teams needs.

Personally, I still reckon Woosh would be mad to move him too far away from goals. Our forward line just looks so dangerous with Samp's and Fido lurking around at ground level.

Sampi started down back, picking up Didak before moving up forward in the second half of the game where he was picked up by Collingwood's Number 13.

Seems to be able to work well in tandom with Phil Matera.

I think Sampi should be played in the back pocket with Wirrpunda, i can't think of a cleaner way to get tghe ball out of the backline. I think he gets in Fido's way when he is in the forward pocket. So the other end of the ground may be a good change. Would like to see it used more often.

I must agree I too was somewhat worried about him due to the reasons that you have detailed. I feel much better now. I also loved one additional thing about him and that was that he was willing to mix it up and showed a fair bit of physicallity at the man. He looks a lot more like Chris Lewis each day...

Personally I do not care where he plays, I just wish we had couple of more of him.

Agreed. Was not impressed with him a few weeks ago, but I was really happy with his effort yesterday. Looks like he's set for a good year.

Personally, I like the idea of playimg him on the HFF line- he's bloody good in front of goals, but his slick hands and good decision making means he is also a valuable playmaker when it comes to helping to deliver the ball to other forwards- certainly, he's not 'just' another goal sneak.

you would like to think a player who was #6 in the draft would not be a forward pocket for his whole career. The further up the ground he goes the more effective he'll become IMO.

I too was put at ease by his solid game after rumors of problems through out the off season. I like him on a HFF, leads and marks well but can also deliver the ball extremely well if the ball comes to ground. Dont like him in a pocket.

Yeah, why? They were very nice, his mum held her breath every time he would go in hard and when he nearly got into a fight.
