If it limits the unnecessary grind in the game it can be good, I haven't played the last 2 games as its just so long and big.

It all depends on how they execute it. The next GTA is going to be a live service too. It's not a bad thing.

The market has changed forever and I'm surprised it's taking this long for other brands to try and capture that lightning in a bottle that was Fortnite in 2018 and early 2019.

Where I'm more dubious about Ubisoft is they have made it clear they are keen on bringing the mobile F2P model to mainstream. I don't mind paying for DLC, season passes for extra content for games I like etc, but I prefer to just pay for the full price of admission to get the whole game up front. It's unlikely that I'll support a free skeleton version of a game with the rest of it pay walled. Once those flood gates are opened there will be no ceiling on the price for a "full" game. I'll happily stick to indies if that becomes AAA practice.

I think the Fortnite model is the only one that can really truly succeed. Where the game and all content is free and updates are released regularly, with the money made through cosmetic DLC or maybe some shittier lootbox thing. If you make a great game, it will fuel the purchases.

Any other model fragments the player base and kills the game off. It's been happening forever, ever since publishers started charging for map packs. I think Rockstar will nail it, and I'd bet on Ubisoft to **** it up.

Fortnite is also competitive which has players coming back. Each round is a new game. I can see how this would work with something like GTA Online. It seems to be working for Destiny (though I've retired from that game) with the base game and most content free, then you pay for your season pass if you want access to the latest stuff and there is also the standard cosmetic microtrasaction shop. Cosmetics in a single player game like most AC games doesn't have the same appeal. That's why I'm dubious of Ubi and this plan for AC and how they plan on changing the game to make it work.

That lightning in a bottle was a plagiarised cartoon battle royal that let kids play online shooters without their parents noticing. Lightning doesn't strike twice and definitely not with paint by numbers Ubi game.

Kids have always played online shooters and always will.

Is Infinity a reference to the amount of cash they want to make through MTX?

I don't get the hate for live service games. What's wrong with a game getting constant and (mostly) free updates?
