Apparently lifestyle for his family in Geelong is the overrider. Not heavy on the pay scale.

Ummm, they played together and probably have enormous respect for one another.

As a middle manager, I have no interest in working under senior leadership with a poor track record. Nigel Lappin wanting to work under Voss because they had a good playing relationship is fanciful.

I believe people of integrity, who do have AFL playing experience, who do have coaching talent and experience, who might be a senior coach in waiting, but who doesn't want to undermine anyone, and who wants to bring the best out in everyone, is important.

There were rumours of friction amongst some players and coaches. Sometimes that is good (as iron sharpens iron), but other times more energy can be spent in dealing with the negative than being positive.

I have NFI about Hamill, but I suspect there may have been some of this in the room, and why he may have been the first one to go..

Voss may or may not coach beyond 2026, but I reckon we don't need negative energy...
There are limited number of senior coach vacancies, and I reckon real quality people will want to be able to say "This is what I did to help lift Carlton up", rather than complain and say '"I think person A, B, or C was crap." Just my opinion...

I think that Hamill might have been caught up in all the drama and just wanted out in the end. He's a reasonable coach and managed to get the backline functional. At times, the defence has been great, premiership quality great... but the drama elsewhere in the club caused it to fail this year.

Last time I checked, Russell is our forward's coach. I think there is plenty wrong there.

Definitely his fault that 2 players had let’s call them mental health issues, one was conditional on when he felt like playing, one was out for the whole season, one was on fire in the practice matches and then broke down again, one is a kid.

If 4 of those played 15+ games together this season, we wouldn’t be in this dire position.

Not the forward coaches fault at all IMHO…

If we don’t get at least one of the accepted next generation (coach in waiting) types to upskill the group and offer a viable in-house successor should Voss continue his perceived trajectory, it will be a fail.

But did he? From what I could see, we couldn’t maintain a vfl-level zone, we’re terrible at defensive handovers, had zero consideration for kickouts, and the only reason some of our defensive numbers looked ok was because we flooded numbers back to support and contest (which in turn stifled our offensive movement).

I reckon the senior assistant coaching space is going to be pretty intriguing and quite revealing.

A few of the notable senior assistants pulled out of the Melbourne race early, but I can’t help thinking that might’ve been partly because they smell blood in the water with our head coaching role.

Will be interesting to see if those same coaches join our coaching staff.

How about, despite having 2 Coleman medalists, quite a few other options (McGovern, Kemp, JSOS) , as well as a bunch of smalls, we still don't have a functional forward line (2025 injuries aside).
