I've maintained that every time we've had our class on the outside fit and available we've been absolutely fine in terms of game plan. As soon as you take out a few of them though we revert to bomb down the line crap.

How we were playing vs Geelong for instance is night and day to some of our other games and the only difference was we had our runners and class available.
I'd rather we stick to it and be known as a hard team that will not let you get away with easy possessions than be known to play unaccountable footy.

I guess the point is Pressure & hitting targets (across all lines) goes a long way towards premierships these days.

I believe it's actually better than that, but we don't have the players to make it work to our advantage yet.
Considering that our Top players have been out most of the year, and we have barely any disposal, and the fact that 90% of the comp have adopted the same 'Run & Gun' style, I think it's a point of difference.

I Like that we pressure the ball carrier and we don't just abandon them and run forward trying to beat OPs to the next contest.
Constant & relentless Pressure forces turnovers and no team is immune from it.

Conversely, we've had a few years learning how to absorb it (though we deviated slightly from it this year).

I think if we can get some elite ball users into Mid/HF, another small forward, and 1 more KPD, we are back in the hunt.

I don't think our game plan has ever been the issue, just the lack of players to carry it out.
Composure & execution…

We have had the most dysfunctional forward line in the comp, Jordan Russell can not possibly be retained looking after the forwards.. Surely someone with actual forward craft experience is required to do this role.. The big forwards all have big egos and i cant imagine them taking advice/instructions too seriously from a total of 18 goals in his career.

I would love the club to bring in Steve Johnson, has an incredible footy brain coached at Sydney and then GWS and only left because they cut the soft cap during covid and has then coached his own teams in Yarrawonga to a premiership in 23 and Newtown to the GF this year in the GFL. He would demand respect from the forwards, and teach them the 'craft' all whilst having a bit of fun.

Collingwood reportedly going after Giansiracusa to replace Scott Selwood.
Seems more like a Skipworth replacement to me.

Scott Burns forward line coach Adelaide
Scott Selwood forward line coach Collingwood

No way I'm blaming Jordy for our forwards this year:

2 out with 'mental health' issues??
2 out with season ending injuries
1 conditional (Primadonna) tall forward
2 used as mids to prop up poor midfield
1 will be a superstar but still a baby

The biggest one of all, the ABSOLUTE GARBAGE kicking from HBs and wings. If I mention Ollie I get shot down, Saad gets tagged and pulled to the pocket, Acres injured but is more a marking wingman who has shoulder issues, don't get me started on our midfielders.

Hmmm perhaps look into the off field as well as why he wasn’t really chased for assistant coaching gigs afterwards. Heard some interesting stories from pigeons players.

Also you’d have to beat the triple m money, which is probably a way better hourly rate than being an assistant coach.

Great move if true, Gia seems to be very highly rated and spoken about a senior coach in waiting for a long time :(

Article on afl website that Skipworth is off to Europe on a coaching expedition with Mccrae and Playfair, doesn't seem like he is going anywhere, contrary to the rumour from a few months ago.

Ashley Hansen now defensive line coach, Jordan Russell head of Development, Josh Fraser forwards coach and Leigh Adams midfield coach.

No senior assistant coach, no mentor-type role either.

On initial glance, doesn’t seem like we’re expecting Voss to remain past next season.

Leigh Adams - Midfield

Tim Clarke - Midfield stoppages & structure

Ash Hansen - Defence

Josh Fraser - Forwards

Jordan Russell - Head of Development

Damian Truslove - VFL Senior Coach and development coach

Rocking Will Smith GIF by HBO Max

Hmm very uninspiring but lets see
