Current Carlton 2026 coaching group:

AFL Senior Coach:
Michael Voss

Assistant coach (defence): Ash Hansen

Assistant coach (forwards): Josh Fraser

Assistant coach (midfield stoppage and structure): Tim Clarke

Assistant coach (midfield): Leigh Adams

Ruck coach: Matthew Kreuzer

Head of Development: Jordan Russell

VFL Senior Coach and development: Damian Truslove

Development coach: Torin Baker

No senior assistant coach to support Voss on match days - interesting.
2 midfield coaches, with one stoppage and structure is purely bang on. We need a real lift here, but surprised TC is doing this bit but happy it's been identified.
Josh Fraser = new forward coach = LIKE!!
Both issue area's addressed.

Russell probably suited to a development role

Truslove experienced vfl coach which is what we need.

Article said scope for further changes under the new structure, so could be a couple more development coaches.

A genuine question for you, Surrey. Why is there the split in workload between midfield coaches? And while it seems clear as to what Tim Clarke is doing in that area, what does it mean that Leigh Adams does in his midfield role?

That is a great question. I was taken back a little with such appointments initially but thinking a bit more I would say:
LA will be working on initial throw up structures with ruckman and 3 key mids at the time and
TC will be working on the transition / setups with our clearances from there - around the ground. Would involve the half forwards / backs and wings.
I'm hoping we see some real improvement in this area though!!

Bloody inspiring additions for those hoping to get some proven quality around Voss 😂. A guy who was assistant at a club that won 20 games during his six seasons and last season's head coach of Banyule (who finished 6th of 10 in div 1 of the Northern Football and Netball League). Seems it might have been hard to get the best of the best (or even best of the rest) to come support someone that has shown zero ability as head coach. Will just have this little whinge then move on and support them until I'm hopefully proven wrong.

Collingwood is interested in Melbourne assistant Troy Chaplin. - Morris

Yep quality additions in the coaching ranks, ahead of quality additions in the trade period (Khamis, Reidy and Chesser)

Just call us Mediocrity FC :D:huh:

Thanks to Jimmae for pointing it out in the other thread but just noticed at the bottom of the Carlton article about coaching changes it says:

"The Club will continue to communicate any further addition to its coaching department in due course, within the new structure."

So may be something else to come.

So I'm expecting more appointments, 6 have gone (1 HoF and 5 coaches) and 4 have come in (1 HoF and 3 coaches). There are 2 vacancies still, Head of Coaching Performance and Innovation (Greaves old role) and Development and Talent Manager (Lonergan's role). Unless some from within shift sideways or the roles are made redundant??

In this thread as well from yesterday:-

I wish the new coaches well and hope like hell they can make a difference but I can’t help but think these appointments are an indication of how the Carlton Football Club is viewed in the industry. We are not viewed as a desirable place for aspiring coaches to go to due to our lack of success and lack of infrastructure.

In the days of Parko we attracted future coaches like Lyon and Worsfold who came to the club because they thought they would learn how to be successful, but now we get the scraps because we’ve been surpassed by Geelong, Collingwood, Hawthorn, Sydney, Brisbane and the like.

There is no chance guys who have made careers out of being good assistant coaches would leave those environments to come to the Blues. Nigel Lappin or Adrian Hickmott aren’t going to leave stable, successful clubs like Geelong or Hawthorn to come to a club that has a history of sacking coaches every 2-3 years and cannot make finals regularly.

imo it’s mostly to do with not having a well functioning footy department and poor footy managers like Lloyd.

If we had a good strong head of footy department (Lloyds role) problems related to health/fitness/high performance, coaching, team selection committee, list management would probably be resolved sooner rather than later.

Lloyds been way too weak or he was genuinely out of his depths.

See what the guy from port is like…hopefully he can make a difference.
