Somewhat predictably there has been a plethora of doom and gloom threads since the final siren. Nothing wrong with that per se - hey go ahead, knock yourselves out - but we don't need a new thread every 5 minutes.

So unless they reach some sort of self-sustaining critical mass, they will be moved in here. Go ahead, pour yourself a stiff drink, kick back and read on

Totally agree !! Don't think Moss and Morton will be in for much longer. But Murphy??? He can't do no wrong in Clarksons eyes. NOT AN AFL STANDARD PLAYER!!!

The whole team played poorly. Singling out anyone is poor form. I thought Murphy did ok from the perspective of TV

well lets be honest pplz, we are back to the days where we have good players on paper but simple just dont perform.

I'm not talking just about tonight, in general we keep waiting for these players to devolop yet why does hawthorn seem to have the slowest devolopment for players.

Ellis? How long has this kid been on the list and everyone had such high raps about him but he has yet showed me any reason to suggest he was a top 10 pick.

Goo? isn't he suppose to be cool, calm, acurate kick and one of our "generals" in defence? if anything i have found he make stupid decisions, his kicking is questionable and the way i look at it, anything other team he would not be in the starting 22.

Rough? Has had 1 good season, other then that he has yet fixed his approach on goal and he fades out of the game way to easy.

Enough with naming players individually, lets ask the question, whom from 08 has actually improved? I can think of a couple in rioli, renouf, ??? hodge is hodge, but other then that i come to a complete halt.

I think its time we STOP expecting to much from this mob, we had a good season in 08 but thats about it lads, without a defence and a ruck stuck we will never challenge for the cup. So im just gonna learn to live with it and just stop convincing myself we are acutally a premiership contender.

The rest, I agree with. We have talented players who through 07 - 08 performed how we all expected them too. Since then they've seemingly taken 2 steps backwards.

after tonight we need to start to rebuild was there any positives?
we need another ruck they wont bring a backup in like Isle
How can we run 2 good side to the last 1/4 and get spanked by the pies
which we should have beaten.
Someone said we need to lower our expectations we need to after tonight I LOVE THE HAWKS BUT WE WERE SHOCKING
I am gob smacked I am so pissed off I will not bag one player but the team and coaching staff because we are better than this I handle getting beat by the cats & dogs we were competitive.

I actually thought Murphy was ok tonight. Plenty of awful performances... Bateman was terrible with his disposal. Moss is too slow for AFL level at the moment, Roughie needs to adjust his run up for goal, Birchall's first half was atrocious, Schoenmakers is going to make mistakes, he's a kid.

We are ruining Junior by playing him in the midfield. We need to play Lisle/Dowler as a 2nd ruck, even if they are beaten.

What Hawthorn needs to do NOW!

1) Give either Delloites, Ernst and Young, PriceWaterhouseCoopers or KPMG a call on monday and ask for a performance/comprehensive audit of every department at the Hawthorn football club, i want to know why this club with over 40 million in annual turnover can go from Premeriship winning champion to basket case in 18 months.

2) Get rid of Barker, Murphy, Morton immediately

3) Make every player take an extra 50 shots on goal at training per week

4) Use every available resource and get talent scouts to every VFL, SANFL, WAFL etc, im still trying to understand how quality players like Silvani and Barlow can slip through our fingers when we desperately need decent mature age players for a cheap price. If we already have talent scouts then sack them and get better ones, offer anyone more credentialed a great price, we cant afford more draft blunders especially now that GC is coming in next year

We may not be able to revive this season but if we take drastic action and make a full review (not too dissimilar to what Costa did with Geelong back in 06) then we get back on track.

i dont think we need to rebuild, i think we need to restructure our set up in order to best utilize our list. We lack a good tall defender , slot roughead there to strenghen us up, With the likes of Franklin, lisle, dowler as talls and rioli, burgoyne and peterson as more mobile players we still have fire power.

I think Lisle will finally make an appearance. As for Dowler im pretty sure he is still injured!!

New coach, new president, new management, new medical staff, etc...

We won a premiership with the youngest list in the AFL and you would think there would be an improvement, instead we have taken backward steps.

We make the finals this year, some here will say that it was a great job by coach and staff. I see the list of players that we have, (when their not all injured) and out best 22 is as good as anyone else. We should be contesting a premiership and have built a dynasty, instead it appears most importantly, that we need to build a hospital at Waverley.

If not making the finals means wholesale changes are made at our club, then I REALLY hope we don't make the finals.

Once again LE, you've hit the nail on the head.

This seems like a post out of sheer frustration / anger. Which is why boards (I'm assuming, I don't really venture to other teams boards) are flooded with threads like these after losses. People get pissed off that they lost, and come online to vent.

We definately do NOT need to rebuild. We still have an incredibly young list.

I agree OP except for the last line "tank it up". None of the recruits we have garnered since 08 are anything special. But , maybe it's just the way they are forced to play. Clarkson looks like he has no idea in the coaches box even after the first 5 minutes. Maybe 08 was anomaly??
