You need to find enough to power up the interchange so you can get to Oberon and make your end game choice there (I won't spoil what Oberon actually is). But you'll likely have a lot more batteries than you need by that stage, I probably have 10 left over.
ok cool.

Are there many other side quests or quests that lead to finding the batteries?

Not so much done via quests but through general gameplay. Knowing how to barter helps
recipes are weighted very heavily, so if you find one you've already learned you can use it to trade, 2 or 3 get you a battery
. A big one for me was attacking robots, as each one gets you a battery
The battery itself is their weak spot, and is in the middle of their back. Two sticky bombs to land on it, and then a couple of rifle shots on it, will cause the robot to overheat. Then rush over and take out the battery before it cools down
.

Is this game worth getting?

I'd give it a solid 7/7.5 out of 10. I enjoyed it, but it's not something you'll be thinking about a year after finishing. The developer showed a lot of promise with it, so I'm personally happy to purchase, but you really need to be a fan of Fallout games and British sci-fi to get the most out of it.

If you have Game Pass, it's exactly the sort of game the service is for, as long as you have 25 hours to spare.
