I did a search for Port Adelaide from 1981 -1990...came up with some interesting results. They still bagged Collingwood back in 1990 just like they do now!!! Example::

Ah well, I guess it had to happen. Collingwood walked it in. Thirty
two years of bliss come to an end.

COLLINGWOOD 2.5 8.9 11.10 13.11 (89)
ESSENDON 2.2 3.5 5.6 5.11 (41)

Norm Smith Medal Tony Shaw (Collingwood Captain)
( Best on ground ) 22 kicks, 8 marks, 10 hand passes

An ugly game marred by a brawl at quarter time which also included
the training staff of both sides.

Collingwood started ferociously but couldn't capitalise. Essendon
scored twice through Salmon on their forward sallies and Collingwood
looked a bit wobbly until Daicos kicked a miraculous goal ( standard
practice for Daicos ) with only seconds remaining to put the Magpies
in front at quarter time.

The brawl was pretty fair dinkum. Six reports so far and a few more
certain to come once officials study the video. Physically, Essendon
were the main aggressor all day, but they found it easier to kick
heads than goals.

Essendon's backline played well all day with only a few glaring
errors. Thirteen goals should not be a match winning score. On the
other side, Collingwood's centre line was on top all day, starving
the Essendon forwards of opportunity. And when they did get the ball
up front, the Bombers went to pieces.

Salmon and Madden, usually Essendon stalwarts, had an attack of the
horrors. Salmon missed two sitters and Madden kicked into the man on
the mark. Once the Bombers got the fumbles luck, as it usually does,
ran against them. They hit the post, balls bounced maliciously, and
feet slipped at crucial moments.

Collingwood, on the other hand, gained skill and confidence by the
second. The last few minutes of the game saw the Magpies kicking
the ball around just to make sure everybody on their side got a go.

The after match presentation was one of the most emotional I've ever
seen. The Black and White hoardes sang and screamed themselves hoarse.
Eventually, they poured out of the ground and back toward Magpieland
for the commencement of a two day ( two month, in some cases ) party.

The rest of Melbourne hid behind closed curtains.

Over in Adelaide the Black and Whites completed the major Trifecta.
The Port Adelaide Magpies, in a top performance, snatched the SANFL
title from Glenelg. With Swan Districts winning the week before in
Western Australia, Black and White teams have won all three major
Aussie Rules titles.

PORT ADELAIDE 4.5 10.7 13.9 16.12 (108)
GLENELG 5.2 6.7 9.11 13.15 ( 93)

I can't supply too much more information stats wise as Victorian
papers have no time for anything except Collingwood at the moment.

None the less, it was a top game with a heap of incredible goals.
Hodges kicked 7 goals ( I think ) to break the SA goal kicking
record of 151 goals in a season by 2. The kid looked gone for all
money after a bad collision just before half time. To his credit,
he came back, limping, and still played well enough to break the
record and be one of the best on ground.

Port Adelaide has now won three SA Grand Finals in a row. More power
to them.

Until next year, when the rampaging Eagles slaughter all before them,

GO EAGLES!!
