August and Everything After - Counting Crows

It's an exceptionally good album, possibly one of the best debut efforts of the 90's. It's a testimony to it's quality that it still stands up today. Certainly the best of all the CC albums. I love Perfect Blue Buildings + Anna Begins...and of course, that great sing-along track, Mr Jones...

However, CC are scarred virtue of that dreadful, dreadful, dreadful cover of Big Yellow Taxi. That wasn't necessary, but they did it and r*ped it. Shame. I've never seen them in the same light since. Cannot bring myself to buy Hard Candy (I think thats the album its from...).

But yeah, August, as well as This Desert Life, are CC at its finest.

Hard Candy wasnt a bad album actually, gets better with repeat listenings.

Holiday in Spain is an extremely good song off it. Big Yeelow Taxi didnt even make it onto the Australian version of the album (i didnt mind the song though).

This Desert Life is gold as well.

Ms Potters Lullaby, St Robinson and hid Cadillac Dream, Hangin' Around........the list goes on.

Recovering the Satellites was also good, quite underrated. Still contained gems like Goodnight Elizabeth, A Long December and Walkaways.

But, AAEA beats them all.

Is this the same band that did that "Accidently in Love" tune on the Shrek soundtrack?

Yeah, killer.

Sorry, i shouldnt do that. I'm sure they have some good songs. I've never heard one though.

They did unfortunately make that song - very lame it was. In no way is it representative of the kind of the stuff they made on August and Everything After.

One of my all time fave albums:

1. Round Here
2. Omaha
3. Mr. Jones
4. Perfect Blue Buildings
5. Anna Begins
6. Time and Time Again
7. Rain King
8. Sullivan Street
9. Ghost Train
10. Raining in Baltimore
11. Murder of one

Not a bad song on this album at all IMO.

Boring shyte.

This was the start of the "MOR" or "Adult Contemporary" era that spurned similar disappointments with no charisma or edge such as Matchbox 20, Goo Goo Dolls, Creed, and the other thousand bands who churn out dull risk-free rock.

Seriously, can you guys not hear the difference? I want to know which bits send a chill down your spine?

SERIOUSLY, you cannot bundle Counting Crows in with Creed and Matchbox 20!!

Funny that, this is exactly what I would have said about your opinion.
I dare you to do a poll. Al you nobends who are claiming "unanimous" will soon know what most people think of this boring bunch of try hards.

ps Big Yellow Taxi. Bwahahahahah hahahah hahahaha

This thread is about music pre-dating Big Yellow Taxi by about 10 years...

Have you even listened to this album or are you just bored...

One of my favourite albums of all time. Especially like Anna Begins, Round Here, Murder of One and one of my favourite songs ever, Mr Jones.

Unfortunately they're one of those bands that never quite lived up to their first album, even though they've done some good stuff since.

Looks like a unanimous decision :) :thumbsu:

May not be quite so unanimous...
