Have a few of these so I'll chat about two of them amongst my collection:
Midnight Oil: Capricornia
Continuing the slicker pop rock sound there are some cracking tunes from this album. The jangling guitar riff throughout the catchy "Golden Age" and Garrett firing up during the middle eight. The stark to full throttle build up on "Under the Overpass" The hypnotic "Where Would You Live". The sublime title track which is really one of their most enjoyable tunes ever I reckon and the buzzing "Mosquito March" a little throwback to their earlier faster playing.
Divinyls: Underworld
The band had burnt out, all sorts of shit going down yet out comes a rawer, less worked and bare to the bones honest record for my money was much better than the slick pop dross that gave them big success. Best known perhaps was the minor hit "Im Jealous" which is a spiteful and honest ballad with a stinging and ringing guitar accompament from McEntee. "Human On The Inside" really brings out Mark's understated rhythm playing, great tempo and lyrics and covered later by The Pretenders. A fine song deserved to have been a bigger hit. Yes there are a few fairly average tunes but we do get another mournful ballad, not as good as Elsie, "Come Back To Earth" Her pained voice and heart pours out here. Things heat up with the good times rock of "Sex Will Keep Us Together" though.
Any comments on these particular albums or discuss some of your own that fit this catagory.
