While not normally the biggest Winter sporting nation, Australia has won Gold Medals now for 3 Olympics in a two, including 2 in Vancouver. Names to take note of include past Gold Medalists Dale Begg-Smith (yes he has shown up) in the Men's Moguls, Lydia Lassila in the Women's Freestyle Aerials and Torah Bright who'll compete across all three of the women's Snowboarding competitions including attempting to repeat in the halfpipe where she is considered one of the favourites and was picked by Sports Illustrated to take home the only Gold Medal for Australia in this event.

Away from squad members with medals already you have the the likes of Alex "Chumpy" Pullin who is the current two time World Champion in the Showboard Cross and is a strong chance to at least medal and luck going his way pulling off the Gold Medal. In the Men's halfpipe, we have Nate Johnstone and Scotty James who will challenge for medals in the halfpipe with James the current World Cup Champ in the event and he'll also compete in slopestyle. Other medal hopes include Laura Peel in the Women's Aerials who finished 2nd at the Sochi Test event and Holly Crawford who is a past Women's halfpipe World Champion.

Other than that there are a few stories in the squad that deserve telling.

This is a squad that can do very well and out do the effort in Vancouver.

A few major developments overnight.

Congratulations to Alex "Chumpy" Pullin who has been chosen as the Australian flagbearer. Alex is a dual Snowboard Cross world champion, and in his 2nd Olympic Games, is hoping to add gold to that list of accolades.

As FBF noted above, Torah Bright started her campaign overnight in the Snowboard Slopestyle. Looked very comfortable and finished 2nd, progressing straight through to the final where she's a huge chance of bringing home a medal.

Unfortunately for Scotty James, his Games didn't get off to as smooth a start. Didn't manage to secure automatic progress through to the Snowboard Slopestyle final but has a second chance in the semi-finals. The final landing was his undoing on both runs, crashing on the first then unable to land smoothly on the second attempt.

The story was much the same for a few Aussie ladies in the moguls. Britt Cox (12th), Taylah O'Neill (16th) and Nicole Parks (17th) all failed to secure automatic progress through to the final but have the chance to get there through the semi-finals.

Torah a strong chance for a medal tonight in the Slopestyle.

Very strong chance. Absolutely cruised through qualification, really looked a class above and that she had another gear or 3 to get to. Looking forward to seeing what she produces tonight.

Torah didn't win, thank heck.
Must be the most annoying sportsperson that's ever existed.

Forza Italia.

Unfortunately Torah fell well short. All competitors seemed to struggle at some stage across their two runs and Torah struggled in both.

Disappointing but this is just the start of the journey for her. Has 2 more events to come and we should see a podium finish from her in at least one of those.

Overnight, Alexander Ferlazzo competed in the men's luge singles and finished 33rd.

Torah Bright is quickly becoming a prolific whinger.
Over exposed and under achieving..........just get on with your taxpayer funded competition and shut the hell up!

The enigmatic Dale-Begg Smith will be fighting for gold in the moguls early tomorrow morning, 6am Melbourne time for the last final. No idea of the scoring system in moguls.

How is bringing up the safety of the course, whinging?

As for over exposed and under achieving.... Well how can she control the coverage of a TV network that struggles to beat the ABC in the rating hyping her up and doesn't win a medal in an event she hasn't competed in for years before doing so to qualify and wasn't tipped to win, let alone medal in said event.

Ignoring the fact she has already won an Olympic Gold Medal.

I think I know who should be shutting up

And the wait continues. Brings back nice memories of London.
