By all means go and watch a basketball game, go to a few NBA games if you want, but rest means rest. It doesn't mean hop on a basketball court where you can easily get injured.

It is typical of his big, hugely inflated ego.

Glad he lost, he might wake up to himself and actually work hard for once in his career. Most players would kill for the talent Nick has. It is a pity he is a lazy, arrogant what not who has no idea how to use that talent.
Spare me.

You're carrying on like he's out there playing 5 on 5 streetball on a daily basis.

Can guarantee him shooting hoops from time to time had absolutely no impact on his current fitness. It was just a silly excuse he used to deflect some criticism away from himself.

Athletes barely rest, particularly if they want to be the best, and even if Nick wasn't playing basketball he'd still be doing other exercise which has risk for injury too.

We all like doing stuff outside of our careers, god forbid he plays casual basketball in the off season.

14th in the world at 21. He doesn't play PS4 all day. No one on this website would have worked as hard as him from ages 13-21.
Have no problem with him playing casual basketball but this guy doesn't know what working hard is. He's always been a FIGJAM relying on his natural talent right from his junior days. I would be that many many people with half his talent they'd be burying themselves to try to get every ounce of talent they have in their body to try be the best they can be. Nick doesn't have that mentality. This is what he's thinking: 'ohhh, 14th in the world by 21 years of age! None of my mates have ever achieved that so I must be ****ing good, I just need to keep playing matches, keep rocking up and I'll be on the road to world no 1. in no time.' He can be so much better than he already is if he applied himself. You look at someone like Nishikori and Raonic. Both live and breathe tennis. They analyse the **** our of their game and find every little bit of competitive edge that they can find in themselves and try to IMPROVE all the time. Not when they feel like it, or when they feel good about themselves, but every single living day they are trying to improve.

Both don't have the talent levels of Nick (maybe I've over-estimated Kyrgios level of talent though, mental aptitude is very much a 'talent' I guess) however their attitude towards the game is 100% and that's what's wrong with Nick. His attitude stinks, his commitment to the game stinks and unless that changes he will only ever be a flash in the pan. In before the 'what ranking were they at age 21' argument. His ways have gotten him to world number 14 however he will never ever get much further than that with the way he is going (and you can quote me on this). The clock is ticking- everyone else around him is working their ass off while he sits on his ass expecting to 'mature' without putting in the work. 2 years time they'll be a whole batch of extremely talented juniors rising up along with Novak and Murray still there... his window to win a slam is closing. At the moment he isn't even close and is merely a pipe dream.

I think the fustration with Nick is that he can clearly be so much better than he already is- he should be so much better, however he himself does not want to put in the work or apply himself. No denying on paper for a 21 year old he is ahead of the average pro tennis player. But improvement is never linear. He will stagnate soon and people will surpass him. By the time when he is in the late 20's when the penny finally drops it'll be too late- people will have already gone past him. Maybe he is content content with what he has achieved. I think Australian's in general enjoy someone who gives 100% and maybe even expect it given the exploits of Hewitt. It's hard to watch going from watching a Hewitt grind the **** out of every single point, never give up in any situation, play through multiple career ending injuries and bury his body and soul... to watching Tomic and Kyrgios who don't have that same determination.

Or he should be able to enjoy himself and relax before going back to his work.

Maybe those basketball games make him happy and mental happiness is needed with Nick

Perhaps he should play NBA 2K on the xbox/ps4, then he might only injure his thumb. Although witb his temprament I can see him spitting the dummy when he is losing at video games too.

I'm a little torn by Dasha. I know own the media tell us she is the darling that we all love, and sometimes I do, but I also think she is really annoying.

Anyone else get the feeling that Channel 7 moulded their hero / villain themes Roy and HG style?

We've had Gutsy Lleyton, Aussie Kim, Little Jelena and now our Dasha.

Can just imagine almost perfectly a Roy and HG commentary with the nicknames attached to our players.
