The Avalon Airshow is back 3-5 March 2017!

Planning on going to the Friday night and Saturday displays!

Anyone else keen?

Flying display info will probably be available mid Feb.

Love it, never been to the Friday night display. Is it worth it? Wonder if they'll bring out one of the JSF's for it.

I assume the air show has a very good display of box kites?

Get on this shit. Have been the last few times as both a student and with my father. Always grouse. The friday night display is awesome as well. Very much worth the time

Why do you like planes so much craigos? srs q is srs.

Also- my brother is a pilot. Wanted to join the air force but couldnt pass the tests for it.

Always had an interest in them from a young age. Like the engineering aspect of it I guess. If I had my time over I would have probably had a crack at getting into the Air Force as a Pilot but it is so ridiculously competitive you have to be pretty good.

Is he a commercial pilot?

This is my favourite aircraft atm.

No my dad was not rich enough for my brother to become a commercial pilot. Private license I guess and he has a job in WA- something about... bush fires flies planes... doing something idk. We don't speak much. Never even been up in a plane with him, he offered once but couldnt get a plane free or some shit, so never went.

Yeah as for the air force he tried 3 times I think, each time he just fell below the pass mark.

If you can get in on the trade days it's about 1000x better.

Only takes a reasonably tenuous link to professional aviation too iirc.

Just watched that very tail number take off from Richmond.

Usually get some trade tickets to the show but have a little one due in March so won't be there. Dang it! All the bosses head down though.
Tell your boss to take me instead :D

craigos went to get his pilot licence, but he stormed out angrily when they showed him the cockpit, saying it was "flagrant false advertising"

Probably end up working at the Airshow again this year. And by working, I mean getting free trade passes from work and watching planes for the week. The trade days generally have bigger gaps before each display, so less displays on, but there's less safety requirements so you generally see cooler stuff. And yes, Friday nights have the best (public) displays!

How tenuous?

We need a thread - sneaking in to the Avalon Air Show. Or maybe sneaking in to the gold pass area.
Is Qantas Club membership tenuous enough?
Tbh I've always had a legitimate access when I've gone but you hear things like flying schools letting their students just head down and saying "I'm representing xyz flying school" etc.

If you work for a company that has some link to aviation/defence that will probably be enough if you can show a work ID card.
