What are some awkward situations you find/have found yoursef in?

For me:

-When you are with a friend that sees one of their friends that you have never met, they just start talking and you stand their in slience.

-When someone randomly says someone in their family has died or has cancer.

-Getting a haircut from a barber you have never met before.

-Greeting a girl you that you don't have a set greeting with. For example some girls hug, some kiss on the cheek and some do both.

When your mates get told off by their parents in front of you.

When you momentarily look at someone you don't know (or do but not well) and they look up at you instantly afterwards and catch your eye. It seems to them like you've been staring at them when really you were just looking around.

When someone you think you recognise but aren't too sure you do waves or smiles in your direction and you're not sure whether to respond or if there's someone behind you.

Using a urinal next to a work colleague that you aren't friends with. Though I refuse to use the crapper for a piss when that happens because it shouldn't matter.

There was some kind of work bathroom etiquette email going around about that.

I've had this happen a few times. It's really awkward when they start talking for ages about something that's only relevant to them, and you're just left standing there like an idiot with no way of getting involved the conversation. However, I've found that if the new friend is female, they generally seem more interested in including you in the conversation and/or getting to know you a bit as well. With guys, it's usually just an introduction/handshake/hello, and then they just talk to your friend that they already know.

-Greeting a girl you that you don't have a set greeting with. For example some girls hug, some kiss on the cheek and some do both.

I'm so used to a hug and/or kiss on the cheek with a lot of female friends that when there's no contact (usually with newer female friends), it feels really awkward and uncomfortable, almost as though there's something wrong between myself and the other person.

Definitely when you see someone that you know, but not too well, AND you are in a place where you can't go anywhere else. Often you have no idea whether to say hi, and you have no idea whether they will either.

Also agree with that momentary glancing one. Especially when there is a decent looking chick involved

When you're sleeping in a giant bed with a few people without a doona because it's too hot and you wake up with a massive erection and it's so ****ing obvious and the person next to you is wide awake so you try and cover it up somehow but they clue on and just stare at you for a bit.

Then it hurts because you're wearing shorts and you have to like bend it down a bit to fit it between your legs.

Is there a socially awkward penguin for that?

I hate when you can't understand someone.

If don't understand the first time after they've repeated themselves, I just run.

And on the erection thing, I hate waking up in the morning and finding the doona on the floor. I start thinking that someone has walked into my room whilst i've been sleeping and seen my morning glory.

When you're trying to walk past a massive family / group on the street or in a shopping centre, you try to pick gap to pass them and speed up your walking a little bit to get through the gap.

You subsequently fail to take said opportunity, resulting in you walking exactly seventeen centimeters behind said group / having to do some weird combination of steps to avoid walking straight into said group / being consumed by said group.

Or maybe it's just me.

This happens at least once per trip to the shopping centre . I like to walk very fast in these kinds of places, and it is downright irritating using weird walking patterns just to stay a distance behind the people.

My mum always opens my door in the morning when I'm a sleep before she goes to work because she reckons it gets way too hot in there...and I always goddamn wonder if my balls were showing or my man-stick was stickin out or something.

A few I can think of off the top of my head..

- watching TV with the parentals and period tampon/pad ads come on the tv. Or those ads for thrush... soooo embarrassing. (and so glad I dont live with my parents anymore so I dont have to endure that anymore)

- my stupid father cracking the shits in front of my beloved. As he did the weekend just gone.

- coming home on the bus and seeing someone from high school you havent seen in years. And the fact you never spoke one word to them IN high school, does not prevent them from taking a seat next to you and striking up a very awkward conversation that you have to endure for 20 mins. (happened to me once, was horrible. Am so glad I have a car now so I dont have to take the bus anymore )

• It is absolutely awful having to endure those premature ejaculation ad's when your parents are in close proximity. Same with Bedroom scenes. It's why I rarely watch TV in the loungeroom unless I am absolutely sure I won't get anything like that.
• I've had that old classmate conversation a couple of times in the last few months, although in a shopping centre on both occasions. Very awkward.
• When you are watching TV and some awful pop song comes on as part of the telecast or as an advertisment.
