I have just got my licence (about time) and I was just wondering what theories people know about BAC. ie. How long it normally takes to get to 0.00 BAC.

Last night I went in to the city as a friend has just moved into an appartment next door to Crown, and I drank big as did my mate. Our normal assumption is that it takes normally around 12-14 hours since you last stopped drinking. That is pretty much our benchmark...then again, that could be completely wrong.

We stopped drinking at about 1 o'clock in the morning, and left the city at 3 in the afternoon. There is that 14 hour barrier.

I don't want to get caught drink driving (who does), especially after my brother in law had got caught drink driving 16 months ago, and the costs, hassles etc. is more than enough to make you not even think about it.

I can be a big drinker, and would like to watch out on this, so any theories heard would be fitting to be posted in here just to have some ideas. I am sure it well help decision making in the future.

Cheers.

general rule... takes your body one hour to absorb one standard drink, so start counting one hour after you stop drinking, to allow the alcohol in your system to peak... no I can´t translate that into english, and I´m waiting for people to jump all over my theory!!

Safest thing to do, don´t drink and drive. If you have a massive night, don´t drive until late afternoon or later that eve.

Depends if you had more than 14 standard drinks. Have to allow an hour for every standard drink you've had.
If you had a massive one, it probably wasn't long enough as 14 standard drinks is only about 9 stubbies I think.

Think that's how it works.

The formula is:

Count your (standard) drinks. Count the hours you've drunken over. Add 1 drink to your tally for the alcohol to peak. Subtract this from the hours you've drunken over (start to finish). The amount remaining is the amount of hours before you are .00.

Believe me on this. It's something I need to know :o

eg: Well, memorising the night, I had 4 shots of vodka, 6 pack of draught, 3 pints and 1 pot at Crown and 1 7.0% Longneck. Drinking time - 8:00 PM-1:00 AM

Vodka (shots) - 1.0 x 4 = 4.0 SD
Draught (6 pack) - 1.5 x 6 = 9.0 SD
Vodka (longneck) - 1.9 x 1 = 1.9 SD
Pints/Pots (crown) - 1.5 x 4 = 6.0 SD
add Extra = 1.0 SD
TOTAL = 21.9 SD

less HOURS = 5.0 hrs

TOTAL TIME BEFORE 0.00: 16.9 hrs

Time when 0.00: 5:50 PM

as Borat would say, "naughty naughty"

The rules of thumb quoted are useful, but alcohol absorption and deletion rates can vary depending on your body mass and on whether or not you eat with the alcohol, or so I'm led to believe. Also, it would seem women are more susceptible to a higher reading than men, even though they consume the same amount. For what reason I know not.

So if your a big ********, does that mean (by theory) that you would lose quicker or hold longer? Hopefully the former :p
