Not in the David Hart mould, but I rate Schofield as an excellent back pocket. Can play on all size opponents, is excellent at defending the lead, is solid overhead and has the agility and pace to go with the nippy little blokes. I understand he hasn't had a great year, so far, but I reckon he could offer quite a lot in the back pocket in the future.

Going forward the obvious candidate I see is Adam Selwood, when the likes of Masten, Ebert, Scott Selwood, Swift and Shuey start to get more games in the middle. We're probably 2-3 years from that.

Agree with that, in 2-3 years time I could definately see A Selwood move to a back pocket to play out the last 3-4 years of his career ala Banfield.

Have to respectfully disagree there.

Drew Banfield was dreadful as a back pocket.

Opposition clubs often exposed West Coast by putting a quick small foward against Drew and making them one out.

Drew had a very wide turning circle and nimble opponents exposed that.

On David Hart was a great player for the club and had a wonderful penetrating kick on him.

Was good friends with him when he had his courier business used to see him all the time, used to have lunch together on occasion.

We have been blessed with David Hart and Wirra.

He did the job on Nick Davis on the most important day of the year.

He did.

A very good job too. Spoilt almost everything that came his way.

Also, watching the '94 grand final yesterday, David Hart was unbelievably good.

Unfortunately I wasn't old enough to remember him or even that game.

Please, pleeeease don't pigeon hole S Selwood into the back pocket before he's shown what he can do. Scooter should be in the midfield rotation and lets see how good this kid can get.

Ash Smith looks like a BP HBF project player, McGinnity looks like he is hard at it and would grab any opportunity given, J Jones is another but is pretty tall. MacNamarra maybe, at least he won't get confused wjich way to go.:o:D

I'm not pigeon holing Scooter into only being able to be a HBF. I do have my ideas and preferences for certain players though according to how I see them going. I think Scooter could play a few different positions but so far, I'd like to see him as a HBF.
You're right in that Scooter could be used in the midfield, but IMO, considering that we have guys like Masten, Shuey, Swift, Ebert and likely to have 1 or 2 more top kids to eventually run through the middle, I see Scooter being more a HBF but occasionally getting time in the middle as an alternative plan.

Adam now he has been set free of tagging, playing back and coming out of the Judd / Cousins ''shadow'' is becoming a very damaging, high possession midfield player.

I wonder how good Adam would have been if he had the opportunity earlier on?

My point is that Scooter has great genetics, I have no doubt he could be a very good HBFer, back pocket but I don't agree with Bodozoka on this one, a gun midfielder will win you more games than a gun backman.

I believe we should play Scooter off a HFF and in the midfield rotation and lets give this kid every opportunity to show what he can do in the "engine room". Thats where flags are won or lost. If other midfielders end up better than him fair enough the HBF and back pocket are plans B and C.................not plan A:thumbsu:

Ideally, I agree with with. But as I've already mentioned in a previous post; not everyone can play in a prime position. Scooter no doubt will be an excellent player, but will he be better than Masten, Shuey, Swift, Ebert? Lucas and Morabito if they get drafted by the Eagles will be in direct competition with Scooter for midfield roles too.
On potential I'd have to say Scooter is towards the bottom end of that list, that's not to say that that's the way it'll end up though.
IMO, Scooter looks to be workman-like like Michael Braun rather than an A-grade midfielder that some of the others listed could potentially be and have a better chance to become.

It's early in all their careers and Scooter is getting his opportunity now playing off a wing and having a run with role.

We're not going to have all these guys plus Kerr and Priddis all playing in the midfield. Someone has to play perhaps the more humble role of a HBF. I think Scooter would do a good job there. If the others don't step up then he should get his crack to take on the role more permanently.

Priddis wont be at the club in 3 years.

I hope we dont take Lucas. Better options available.

That may be so. It was a hypothetical in regards to Lucas and Morabito.

I hope Lucas isn't another Staker. All the right attributes with potential, just never met. Let it not be so if we pick him up.

How old will he be then? 27 -28?

If thats the case wouldn't Pridis be a valuable trade option now? He's 24, getting into his prime, needs to play in a side as the 3rd / 4th best mid and gets a ton of ball.

I think Pridis will stay, and longer than 3 years. He may be plaing off the bench but as a 27 - 29 yr old depth midfielder I'd be happy with what he would add to the team.:thumbsu:

Lucas has football brain and awesome skills. Will play Mastens current only allot better and with a higher number of contested possessions. Last week of the champs and Draft camp is going to settle the score on who we should take for me.

Cheers for the info EH.:thumbsu: I didn't think Lucas was as inside a midfielder as you say he is.
I was thinking he's another Rosa or Fletcher in regards to being able to find the ball 25-30 times a game as an outside receiver but the difference between Lucas and the 2 aforementioned is his elite disposal and his penchant for running forward and kicking a goal or 2.

That was my take on Lucas. If this is mistaken, I'd be happy to receive any other pieces of info on his game.:)
