Big league grudge match coming up!

Regardless if i make 2 trades i'll have 1 short in the backline

now i can bring in fisher (or anyone up to $344700) for kennelly and myers for proud

not sure how much of a value add long term fisher will be over kennelly and i hate trading out someone who may only miss a week

i'd then have guerra, symes (who i want to keep) and selwood on the bench

the other option is bringing in myers and another cheap defender for selwood and proud which would give me some back up in the backline for the rest of the year (hopefully) - the downside again is i don't see the value in bringing in players who you don't think will be in your best 22 without getting a big cash incentive

aarghhhh

if only i was playing someone useless i wouldn't trade at all - but it is a grudge match

Probably mentioned this on the Trade thread, but I really didn't like being forced to use a trade on Proud out Myers in, but did so with the thinking that he'll be a pretty good 8th back whilst also getting me pts - even though I only profit $26,900. I would say Selwood for you (Spangher for me) might not get massive numbers of games. But I suppose they suffice as the 9th back. I too have Symes on my bench and will probably wait for him to come back. So that leaves you with Kennelly. He burnt me three times last year (stupid newby decisions!) - and his kneecap seems to have a tendency to pop out now. Too risky to keep him I think. So I would look at trading him. But to who? My knowledge on the backs is not the best - might leave it to others to recommend there.

If you're destined on avoiding the zero and some long term stability Myers and Gilbee are two solid options. Myers will be a great back-up backman and will score around the 70 point mark for the season. An underperformer like Gilbee is a great get and should be considered as he out of all the backs has the room for most improvement, at his best capeable of consistend 100s.
Not knowing the rest of your backline Symes, Kenelly, Proud, Selwood, Guerra out of those you'd want to keep guerra. If I was in your shoes,
Out: Kenelly, Symes
In: Myers, Gilbee

I think Symes has played his part for 2008 and this leaves you alot of Cash for some big upgrades next week, Goodluck champ.

Would never recommend Gilbee to anyone. Had one good year and thats it. Plays your typical accountable backman now, nothing like the role he used to have. Goddard, Fisher, King, Bock, and mainly P.Burgoyne are the ones you want to have a look at.
