I thought Terry described our performance tonight quite accuratly- The good, the bad and the ugly. Very encouraging signs but as predicted our backline is in big trouble and we are obviously going to have to expect pain in that area for 2-3 years with the development of our young boys. We just have to be patient

I agree, get Jackson out of defence, put him in the midfield
Moore should have played this week
Yeh for sure.....Moore should have played or Morrison could have a go down there?

Siht news about Schulz.

Twas good experience for Jackson and IMO did no worse than Gaspar
has done for 2 years.

Talk about umpires wanting to controla fukken game !!!!!

Campbell should have started on the ground, possibly down back.

I thought Jackson was good on Tarrant. He got towled up but worked very hard and had a red hot dip the whole time. Im happy to see him give away frees if its going over the top in an effort to get the pill. He played well on a superstar and in the long run will do the kid good.

Along with Jacko, Newman, Hyde and espscailly Hartigan were good. Im happy with our small/med backman.

Gaspar, Schultz (injuryed ;(), AK, Graham and co. are a big worry. Our backline spine will cause big problems this year.

I thought Chaffy & Tuck were solid and could get a crack downt here.

I agree bentleigh, there were many positives to take out of jackson at FB, IMO hes better suited there than just abt anyone else on our list, hes a strong kid who will get stronger, hes amazingly quick, havent seen anyone go with tarrant like that, has a lot to learn and got caught out several times but was hard at the contest and looks calm in a tight spot, id seriously look at trying him there for a while..

I was impressed with Tuck, how tall is he? prob 6.2? he has presence on the field i reckon, stands out strongly

The gas was hopeless at the contest which is a big worry but his agility and speed are back.

Wot did u guys think of schulz before he got injured? took a great mark, went with rocca a few times but im still suss on him as a genuine Key defender

Schulz's strongest point is his ability to mark the ball. I would start him at FF, standing right next to the Goal Umpire.

Leave Richo to run about the field like a mad idiot!

richo run? HA! wots all this bollocks iv been hearing hes going to play further out, the only thing further out tonite was his GUT! he looked overweight and slow! he better lose 5-6 kilos before the season starts i dont remember richo looking that heavy in every sense of the word

Tarrant is a very tough matchup for a kid like Jackson, he is strong and very quick off the mark so you really need your teammates to help you out by blocking space for him to lead into. Some good signs for Jacko, still needs to bulk up more and get stronger, but he's still only 18.

That was the big difference between Jacko and Tarrant, whenever they were body-to-body Tarrant seemed to win the contest easily which is probably down to the extra number of pre-seasons Tarrant has done.

I didn't think Gasper was that bad. I just watched the game for a second time and I can't recall to many goals being kicked by his direct man. Graham I was a bit worried about though. He gave away some bad frees early on an kicked the ball to the opposition a few times.

We have to remember its a new game plan for all the guys. We were also playing a sesoned team that you could say are well tuned with there game plan. I would probably be more worried if I was a collingwood fan out of last nights effort as they should have killed us considering the amount of new guys and rookies we had playing.

Agreed

Collingwood had an experienced , seasoned team out on the paddock , should have wiped the floor with us .

Very happy with the performance , even though we lost .

Even though we lost, I dont feel our backline played too bad.

Just think, they had Rocca, Fraiser and Tarrent all forward at times. Any backline would find it hard to contain three big bodies last night. I feel as if our 'thrown together' backline held them up as much as they could.

With Gaspar, Kellaway, Graham and Jackson we have enough defenders to handle the tallish forwards, the problem now is CHB with Schulz out. Options are probably Bowden (although Terry seems to value him more elsewhere) and Hall (tall and athletic, needs to play stronger and watch a few Mal Michael highlight tapes)
