I have been thinking that we lack a really quick defender who can also break packs.

With Zorko and Green filling the small fwd role nicely do we think that Banfield could find a new home in a back pocket?

Would add another dimension to our backline and wouldn't freak me out as much when we play against quick small fwds e.g Garlett, Rioli

Would fix the massive ranga deficiency we have there.

(I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I had to, okay? Someone else was just gonna say it anyway!)

Gotta balance the Red. 2 Reds forward, red mid and red back!

I dunno about this, I think his unsure hands down back could be even more detrimental to the team. I like the pace and (when he was in form) spark he can provide up forward. I don't see any reason why we can't have all three in the forward line AND rotating through the midfield in bursts.

I also like the way our backline is at the moment, Hanley offers a bit of pace and run from the backline, Mcgrath has been good too. Golby is looking the goods and Drummond has been exceptional recently. Patfull and Maguire are both doing their jobs and geting the recognition they deserve. Add in Adcock and Lester and I don't think we need Banfield down back.

Banfield needs to be in our forward line. We have finally managed to nail good support acts in Zorko and Green. It will be our version of 3 zippy small forwards just like St.Kilda.

It will also free up Zorko and Green to get a run through the middle. Both of them are capable acts over there too, as per our reserves reports.

From what we've seen this year alone and from what has been discussed in other threads, unfortunately I would have to agree.

He is a confidence player, not sure that type is suited down back really.

Todd has shown us what he is good at, a few weeks in the reserves (with it's missing thread) and he can join the little fellas down forward.

In my opinion, he needs to play deeper in the forward line, the pressure he exerts on opposing players when we don't have the ball is great, and the opportunity to create turnovers is what we need.

Dayne Zorko can eventually play through the midfield, we must remember he is on the comeback from an injury which must have effected his fitness. The two redheads up forward firing would be a massive boost to our bigger blokes.

I question Banfield's place in the Lions best line-up. The likes of Zorko, Polkinghorne and Green are looking very good up forward and all seem to offer more in other roles as well (midfield rotation, tagger, etc.). On top of that, the likes of Polec and Karnezis have also been slotting in as medium-sized forwards from time to time, so Banfield now has more competition for his spot up forward.

It's hard to find a place for Banfield down back, given the many better options we have there. I don't think he is good enough for a midfield position or to be part of the rotation, so unless a spot opens up in the forward line, it's hard to see how he'll fit back in.

Personally, I don't think he's as good a player as what I've seen from Zorko, Polkinghorne or Green and they all play similar roles to Banfield.

I feel a bit dirty saying this but we have a better forward line without him. Zorko and Green might not have the same pace but they are better footballers. When he is 100% I wonder if he will be automatically back in the team.

I'd argue that we missed his harassment on the ball carrier yesterday. I just don't think Green quite has the sheer pace that banfield does to harass opposition players. However with Zorko's continued good form further up the field as well I see a place for all three of them in our team, rotating between forward and midfield. At the end of the day we need 10-12 players who have the ability to rotate through the midfield in a game at different stages and those 3 I think will be big parts of that. Before the injury he was the lone ranger almost in f50 pressure, I think he will benefit massively from having two others to help him out when he returns.
