Was my fold correct? I have an above average stack, larger stack than mine has opened in an early pos, then a supa nova (so obv experienced) has shoved

Still have BB to act and original raiser..... for me, its either fold or shove (in my mind) so i fold, just in case they have JJ or better..... then bam! the river!

But i feel that the fold was the correct move, so not too upset.... thoughts guys?

Yeah this is definately a 4bet/jam from you Glenno

I ran it through holdem resources calculater and it suggests a 4betting range of 4.8% which is 99+ AQs+ AQo+ and its worth over +1.04bb in EV. Thats considering the jammer has a jamming range of 55+, KJs+, AJo+. If I amend these a little to something a flawwed player may be more likely to jam such as 33+, A9s+, A5s-A2s, ATo+, KQs, KQo then your 4betting range becomes 6.1% 88+, AJs, AQo and TT is now worith +1.85bb in EV

Looking at it on face value it looks like a good spot with TT, and looking at the calcs makes it pretty clear

TT is a fairly strong hand and I think overall people assume theyre always going to be flipping with it when facing a 4bet jam, which isnt true, but even if it is, you're still on the good side of the flip with an extra 4-5% equity, and with the dead money in the pot its a great spot to be picking up chips overall

His call is obviously stupid, I wouldnt even put it past being a misclick given how bad it is, but you shouldnt be shoving A9s there either with 30+bb (I mean if you know his calling range is 9To+ then of course call, its printing money, but we need to assume he isnt)

You should be opening a whole bunch of hands much worse than A9s there though, so next time just go for the raise and play a hand of poker

My concern with the TT hand, is that the big stack wasn't a nit, but he certainly wasn't that loose. He showed down some very respectable hands of recent leading up to that and opening from so early, there was a chance i was crushed. I appreciate the calcs. Helps me get my head around it more and continue on my path of learning

I just figured he had enough chips to fold to a shove. At the end of the day, if i know his range for calling off 8 or so BB's includes 109o, i'm going to make money in the long run against such weak hands

^ ^ TBH on that flop going with bottom pair is not that bad given the board and given villain will have a lot of non-pair broadways in his hand, but overall not a winning long-term strat.

Edit: arguably other players play was worse versus this player, though obviously I don't know the full history.
