Bad luck today. It was a pretty good effort to peg the Termites back to 28 or so points after being down by about 59. It looked for a while as if you guys would almost overrun them.

If the match committee can build on the likes of Cousins, Kerr, Gardinder, Jones, etc., you guys should be a reasonable side again soon enough.

Gardinder would have to be one of the more underrated players going around. He'd be classified as a star in a side higher up the ladder.

Basic skill errors killed us

Surely most players should be able to mark, handball to a teammate and kick to a teammate???

We had the same problem last week against Freo..

Nothing to play for apart from pride.
Hard to get up after a derby game anyhow.

Positives

Wooden
Jones
Chambers
Haynes
Green
Cox when he came on
Roo

Negatives

Wirrpunda...clearly at odds with Judge
Tall defender missing. Someone to go with Richardson. Same happened at Subi.
Williams.........flat
Cuzz.....only 9/10 instead of 10/10
Missed Kerr
Missed carrol
Glass.....flat
Gardy.....beaten all day in ruck

Frodo, I'm afraid you've pressed one of my hot buttons, although I know what you mean, when you said: "Nothing to play for apart from pride."

Pride is the most important thing to play for. Pride in the jumper, pride in your reputation as a professional footballer, pride in not letting your teammates down. Pride in the West Coast Eagles.

I realise that at the end of the year it means nothing that we lost, in that we don't miss a Finals place or a home final or something. But players only get so much time to play AFL and its over so quickly sometimes. Many of those guys should be playing for their careers every week (and their coach's) and quite a few did a pretty poor job yesterday.

Hi,
Hope the opinion of a mere female type person won`t aggravate too many posters, but had to say "praise be" to the person who raised the issue of my pet peeve..............pride.
Our players are paid almost obscene amounts of money to display pride week in and week out, some of them fail dismally. Nor do I think that it should be up to the coach or anyone else to get them "up" in preparation for a game, surely that should get back to that word again.
:)

I don't think pride is the problem. The players positions within the team are too secure, they have nothing to worry about because there is no one to push for selection, all other players are injured.

Who have been our best players over the last few weeks? Cousins, Jones, Wooden, Embley and Jakovich. Wooden was facing the sack so he lifted his game and Embley was on the verge of being dropped so lifted his game. Cousins and Jakovich are leaders so they have sufficient motivation. Jones is trying to prove his worth more than just a tagger.

All other players have been ordinary because they are just going through the motions of the game. Just wait till woosha coaches next year, we won't have those problems:D .

I tell you...

I'd want more money week in and week out to wear that "proud" ochre monstrosity...

(oh dear, do you all see what you've done now? You've started me up again :) )

Why not??

Theyre still the same players

Woosha wasn't nicknamed "the smiling assassin" for nothing. Those who would piss him off would feel his wrath;) As well as the players genuinely wanting to earn their coaches respect.

Oh, speaking of pet topics...

I was referring to the putative jumper, not necessarily the present home or away incarnation, although actually I quite like the.......................(rambling narrative regarding coastline of Western Australia and the symbolism of blue, yellow and ochre)

The difference i thought between the two sides was the absense of a couple of guys. Kerr was injured and our toughness in the middle diminished and Cousins although played was mostly missing as the credit had to be given to King for a good job. Without Cousins firing which we have come to expect and Kerr's hardness at the ball our midfield struggled.

Says something about Cuz though that King and Sziller did a fantastic job and he still got 17 touches. I think that is the difference between a Cousins and a Campbell. Jones did the job on Campbell and King and Sziller did the job on Cousins. Cousins had to be double tagged and still got 17 whereas Campbell could only manage 7 and then was taken off the field.

(rambling response on how this is a football jumper we're talking about here, not a Robert Juniper frickin landscape, and how although the coast idea is an admirable one the current incarnation looks bloody awful on TV and the bird on both designs looks like a mildly annoyed budgerigar)

:D
