i was looking at the footage of what baker got 12 weeks for and thought it looks very similair to what happens to Judd every week. this is just common practice for taggers and defenders. is the game getting soft?

What part of this suspension are people not seeing??

Baker was effectively reported 4 times in the one game with a massive carry over penalty due to a poor record. Each offence has been graded and the penalty is fair. Baker is a goose and needs to pull his head in. Had these incidents occured in separate games the penalty would still be the same for each offense it is just that he was stupid enough to do them on the one night in the same game and has been dealt with. Baker has not received this penalty for one offence and if you look at it like that it is harsh yes but this is his penalty for commiting 4 different reportable offences.

MRP and the AFL got this right IMO.

I agree ... as I was watching the game and seeing all of the different incidents, I thought "man, he's committed 4 or 5 separate reportable acts in a single game!"

I had no idea about the "loading", but I thought if Waite went for 2 for his bump, then Baker had to go for at least 4 for the obvious deliberate punch to the face, and that was just one of the incidents.

if you punch a bloke, even in the hands, you are still punching a bloke. it's not on, we aren't the NRL. Taggers/defenders should have to beat their opposition within the rules by reading the play, the man, being athletically brilliant and with good defencive skills and fair tackling and bumping. Not striking the man, holding on or any of that rubbish. Fair contests are good football.

Exactly, All these dills calling into SEN etc are giving me the shits.

What do they want? a package deal? 6 weeks the lot? Each offense HAS to be punished separately, 4 charges 4 penalties. Its just his own fault and the fact that he had carry over points.

Little dog copped his right whack :thumbsu:

HA HA that was about the gayest suspension that has ever seen in the AFL.The game has turned into a bunch of footballers doing ballet. The old games in the 70s and early 80s they used to throw a real punch not one of those hand slap one hit to head.Back in my days no one died from a hit to the head what they have in the heads these days marshmallows. They should join the boys scout and use them to Roast a Marshmallow.

the hand hitting charge is netball for mine. should players be cited when they go to punch the ball and miss?

I can't believe the public out cry that has been going on for a no talent hack who has lived on his dirty little tactics for years.

It's about time the AFL outlawed these illegal tactics that taggers have deliberately used for far too long.

It casts a very dirty cloud on a valued AFL position where the true stars have earned their stripes for being outstanding footballers without reverting to low ball tactics to win their contests.

Players such as Ling, Bartel (on occasion), Jobe Watson, Brett Kirk, AJ more so last season than this year, etc. have been among the more brilliant taggers in the game and very rarely have any of them done anything remotely questionable. Those are the guys that I applaud.

The Stephen Baker's can go and rot as far as I'm concerned.

I find it hilarious that it came the week after Judd elbowed Pav in the head for the same type of tactics that were being used on him. I never thought I'd say a good thing about Stevie J, but good on him. He's the one I feel sorry for. Had it not been for Baker's filth he wouldn't be missing nearly a month of football. However, someone had to take a stand against it.

I don't agree with the reports for wacking his hand. What if it was his hand that wasn't ouchies? Would he be reported? No

He wouldn't have hit that hand then... Him saying he didn't know it was his injured hand is an absolute load of rubbish. Even so, if it wasn't injured what kind of pansie hits a guys hand out of nowhere anyway?!

Chism has this spot on.

His report for hitting johnson's hand is rubbish. If judds elbow to pav's face wasnt enough force to be considered reportable, then the force of baker's 'hit' on johnson's hand had no force. He was baiscally playing a game of knuckles.

The thing that annoys me is the incosistency of the review panel. The hand hit is the same as reiwoldt on pears the other week who got nothing. They just wanted to set an example with a serial pest in baker.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

It is about time the MRP actually got tough on these tactics. Hitting a player in the stomach and/or the head off the ball tells you everything you need to know about Baker. He obviously is not good enough to get the job done without resorting to cheap shots so he can have his time on the sidelines. It is neither tough or part of the game and I am glad that Judd and Johnson have made a stand that has forced the AFl to admit there is a problem the umpires are ignoring.

As stated on previous topics, the AFL have been burying their heads in the sand and using false statistics to show the umpires are making less than a 5% error rate with their decisions. This does not take into account the numerous times they don't blow the whistle when they should.

I just hope our boys are smart enough to realise the umpires will be white hot on any off the ball holding etc at the start of the game on Thursday night and play accordingly (eg don't run anywhere near serial divers live Boomer). They will be itching to be seen to be doing something about it and we need to be careful not to give them any excuses. Please tell me we don't have Razor, Wenn or McLaren in charge of the game.

However, some of those ex-footballers that got hit in the head now start numerous rubbish threads on BF!

Explains a lot really.:D:D:D

I'm not sure of how pinching and punching behind play fits into the scheme of the game of football.
A tough bump in the course of play is fair enough but that crap behind play must be ousted for the benefit of the game and the quality players we have within it.

The punches to the face = reportable.*

The ones to the hands = not reportable.*

The only reason the hand punches went up for review was because of the attention Johnson's broken hand received during and after the match in the media. Johnson went off the ground, was cleared to come back on, so its fair game. The MRP panel got caught up in all the hype i think unfortunately.

*In my opinion

Maybe, but a dogs act is a dogs act, and how doing that sort of crap betters the game of AFL is beyond me, and yes if Judd was doing the same, my opinion wouldn't change.

Good riddance to behind the play football (?)

If your out there, your presumed fully fit. Unless in the hands of the trainer imo

So you think it's ok to punch an opponents hand behind play ???

What part of Football does this fit into ?

Baker got exactly what he deserved.....end of story.

Agreed.:thumbsu:

My guess is Johnson knew his hand was going to cost him a couple of weeks on the sideline anyway, so it was a good chance to give Baker a reminder that he won't always take that crap without retaliating. Would put money on Johnson knowing the hand was broken and he would miss, so he probably asked to go back out there to make a statement.

It was also a good chance to bring that behind the play crap into the public arena knowing there would be plenty of discussion given the Judd vs Skeletor incident the week before.

Hopefully the umpires have been given a directive to let the ball players play the ball. It worked well for us vs the Cats where the umpires actually watched Judd and Ablett to make sure they got a clear run at it. Made for a fascinating contest.

You have an apt username. :thumbsu:

ah yes, and that is so terribly creative of you. well done there.

netball. no point complaining or being mystified about the likes of waite getting rubbed out if we turn around and cry about someone getting some taps on the hand. we've seen how players have taken to running into contests head first to get a free, maybe now you can watch them take to the field injured in the hopes of getting one. then slap each others backs while we marvel at how tough our players are to play injured.

he punched my hand! waaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
