Just wondering how Ball has polled in the past? Cause he is having a damn good season and he is right under the nose of the umpires every week. Would easily be outright second in Copeland at the moment only a short way behind Pendlebury. Is it feasible to say he could shake things up a bit on Brownlow night and furthermore show St.Kilda they made the biggest mistake in their history?

Has 32 career Brownlow votes so averages 4 per season. Best is 9 votes back in 2005.

Averages 0.2 votes per game.

Swan 0.5
Pendlebury 0.4
Thomas 0.1 (should jump this year)
Dal Santo 0.5
Hayes 0.5
Riewoldt 0.5

So not a huge vote getter historically, can't see him shaking things up too much but he has been given much more coverage in the media and people are talking about him more it seems. And he is playing better than last year overall so who knows.

You get the impression that Ball isn't a favourite of the umpires.

He doesn't do well with frees in general, and seems the votes reflect that.

When players do get a good run with frees, they also seem to poll well in the brownlow, I've noticed, but please no one ask me for an example, because for the life of me i couldn't think of one!

Not trying to shoot you down or anything but he actually has a really good record in regard to free kicks - 305 for, 161 against. However, since he's joined us, the umps don't seem to like him as much, 69 for, 53 against.

Glad someone else noticed this.

I've been getting increasingly frustrated the last couple of months at Ball's shit treatment from the umps. Players jump all over his back repeatedly, lots of tackles go over his shoulder, and no dice from the umps. Particularly enjoyed the Bock fend off with the elbow to the face last week. Bally still stuck the tackle. :)

His Brownlow count seems to confirm he's not well liked. 8 and 9 votes in a season where he finished 1st and 2nd in the B&F for a top side is shocking.

I find that Ball tends to go under the radar a lot. Mainly because most of his possessions and tackles come from big and tight packs where he gets the quick but important handpass out.

Apologize for spoiling the fun but Bally is ineligible after serving a week for a trip in the games against the Eagles by memory.

Nah he only got a small reprimand for it (45 points) so is still elligible :thumbsu:

I had him as BOG today, when we were playing shit in the first half, he was still going well and he played 4 solid quarters.

That famous game last year against Carlton in Round 6 where Judd got 3 Votes, I watched Ball the whole game and I think he had 8 tackles for the game and 7 were on Judd, he harassed and tackled Judd and the ball was turned over, Judd had than many clangers it wasn't funny, he had 37 touches, but half of them were turned over to Collingwood, yet Ball gets 3 goals at important times and shuts down Judd's effectiveness and gets 1 vote ...even Mick was impressed here

Raw numbers aren't everything as you know - this case is a good example.

Ball is scrupulously fair...not sure if anyone in the league is fairer than him.

His ratio shouldn't be 1.8 or so to one overall, or 1.2 to one with us.

His ratio could easily be be nearer 3 or 4 to one.

do remember ball had stellar years in 04 & 05 (when the super draft phrase was coined) but was also in a team that had reiwoldt, gehrig, hayes, dal santo etc all firing and polling votes. after that his OP & ross's game plan destroyed his effectiveness.

now he's in an environment where his skills are welcomed & he's flourishing. it wouldnt surprise me to see him poll between 15-20 votes this year. maybe only enough to come 4th amongst our vote winners. :D
