Ballas should've given the ball to Crowley ;)

And offered a sacrifice to the Anemoi* to drum up a 40 knot wind to push it through too.

Interesting I never knew that. So when is it determined when play has come to an end, when the ball stops?

Not quite - from my vague understanding. It's over when it is either is out of bounds, crosses for a score, is touched by the same team kicking the ball (in a way that 'assists its motion') or when the ball touches the ground .... that last point I'm not sure on but I do remember reading it somewhere.

Surprised people weren't aware of the defender touching the ball rule - there was that incident a couple of years or so back, can't even remember the team (Saints I think??) when a defender after the siren punched the ball through the goals with no pressure on from some 10 meters out. Commentators guessed that he didn't know the rule and the coach wasn't happy with him either; they lost the game by a point I think, a minor scene was made about it, lots of replays etc. and everybody soon got up to speed on the rule.

* So you don't have to bother Google, they're the Greek gods of wind.

Didn't this happen in the final against Hawthorn? They had a shot on goal at the end of the last quarter, and Johnson touched it, and then let it just dribble over the line for a point? I had no idea of that rule, but was annoyed that MJ clearly didn't either. You never know when a point might be vital :(
And I"m fairly sure that it wasn't just off hands, but off hands and then along the ground.

Oh yea, I remember that now. So you're right, hitting the ground must have nothing to do with it. Must be when the ball stops of its own volition (so to speak).

In our case it didn't make any difference, but the incident I'm thinking of though was a 1 point game, I'm fairly sure of it. I think it involved the Saints but that I can't remember. I may have to look it up if I can be bothered.
