i heard that the first number is what country it was made in, the next two were what state etc. is this true?? it would be a lot easier than looking for the tiny "made in australia"
 
I think that the first numbers are the country, so we are like 93, and then each supplier has its own 4 digit number to extend from that. For example "Kraft" could be 1462

So then you get 931462. And the last 7 digits would be random.

I deal with and input a lot of barcodes at work. Its something like that anyway. I have noticed that most of our suppliers have the same digits at the start of their barcodes.

9300800?? not the stuff i buy, ive checked a few things in the kitchen and i cant find any 9300800's

lol, reminds me of the barcode add with that guy that collects barcodes. I think it is a SkyCity Casino, need to get out more add....hehe!

I have entered thousands of these numbers into our database. I work with these number everyday, I think I would know. :rolleyes:
