does anybody know how they number barcodes?

i heard that the first number is what country it was made in, the next two were what state etc. is this true?? it would be a lot easier than looking for the tiny "made in australia"

I think that the first numbers are the country, so we are like 93, and then each supplier has its own 4 digit number to extend from that. For example "Kraft" could be 1462

So then you get 931462. And the last 7 digits would be random.

I deal with and input a lot of barcodes at work. Its something like that anyway. I have noticed that most of our suppliers have the same digits at the start of their barcodes.

Country correct, but not by state.

9300800

I will bet you $1 000 000 its not true. Where did you get this information from?

I have entered thousands of these numbers into our database. I work with these number everyday, I think I would know.
