Interesting article by Barnsey in the Addy this week around ex-players giving something back to the club at .http://www.geelongadvertiser.com.au/article/2009/06/04/75581_geelong_sports.html

But I was just interested to find out who the person at the club he refused to see, hence the reason why he never returned until a few years ago because that person was still there? It seems to be an administrator/board member type person Im guessing but does anyone know anything further?

He maybe referring to the football operations manager who was let go at the end of 2006.

Go CATS!!

i wouldn't have thought it was ayres because i believe he hasnt been involved in the club in any shape or form since the 99 walk out.

Who was the footy operations managers in 06 before balme came down? i thought they didnt actually have one

That possibly wasn't his real title but it was something similar... I'm thinking perhaps Garry Davidson? (think that's his name)

Yep Ayres and Davidson, two of the most hated in the history of any club. MANY people I know in Geelong would not piss on either if they were on fire. BTW Ayres ended Gazza snr career too.

This line is a fairly obvious clue it was Davidson.Balme took over in 07.
But, the only time I felt comfortable coming back to the club was in 2007

Uh huh! That makes sense. Now I know.
I never realised Davidson was so disliked down there.

What's Buddha's beef with the club? You'd have to say he'll never be considered for the senior coaching job, or at least he should be overlooked.

Supposedly he and his brother haven't talked to each other for years. So if true, as Steve is somehow involved with the club, that MAY be the reason.

Plus he still may hold a grudge against Bomber for ending his career (although I'm sure I've heard him say he now understands why Bomber did it).

I think he's unhappy about how the club handled his retirement.

Maybe they were insentive but geez Budha needed to give the game away before his knee totally disintegrated.

I thought that it was Cook who ended Barnes career after John made reference on air to something that Cook did or said about him. Perhaps Davidson copped the blame.

Very true- both Hockings are not close at all and would never be seen dead on the same coaching panel... shame and I know Buddha resents the way he left the club. Tactically, his work with the Falcons sows that he would be a great asset to an AFL club along the way (though the dogged persona sometimes gets in the way!!!)

Davidson was a poor leader, showed through and through at that period in the club. The guy was arrested for being over the limit a few times, just un-sat for someone of his post.

There was bad blood there, Hocking though should realise that his career was nearly over anyway due to the knee. Why does he hang on so, in consideration of what the club must have faced at the time?

So many of the clubs 90's hero's were leaving; he must have felt that. Bit odd if he didn't.
