i think theres no chance in hell we'll see hall downback, but in the ruck, maybe, esp if we lose jolls. im still all for grundy given a fair chance to prove himself up forward. he obviously moulds himself on barry hall by the way he plays and kicks for goal, and is the obvious and perfect choice IMO. with hall in the ruck, and a young bloke like grundy up front, the two could work in tandem very well, like master and apprentice. only thing is, hall would really need to be free of any groin or ongoing fitness probs to play well in the ruck, or anywhere for that matter

Time will tell.. Personally baz is brutal, i love him, most power FWDS have bad years, unfortunatley this was one of them for him and us..
Now all this talk of him being moved around is garbage, hes a Fwd thats it.. IMO moving him is a defeatist attitude, if theres an issue with him not being the #1 Fwd, it dont mean move him down back.. The problem is our midfield, if they always look for a Hall lead first, and neglect our other more than capable options, it not his problem.. We all know he gets the best defender, to me it was a matter of poor coaching not to exploit that hole he creates by drawing his man and generally the spare man in defence.. I hope next year we utilise what i still consider one of the best FWD lines in the comp, and stop making it a one man FWD line..

so lets say he plays 4-5 games next year and theres not a whole lot going on again, and he's struggling to find form, what is plan b. the fact is, Roos doesnt have a plan b, and that was part of the problem this year. i sure hope barry does fire up again next year and kik some ass, but you gotta know what your plan b is if he doesnt. are you just gonna leave him there all year and hope that your midfield wake up and look for some other options, or hope that he plays himself into form, or do you shuffle things around, i dunno, im not a coach, and i am positive its not a straight forward issue, lets just hope baz comes good then AND we utilize other excellent forward options as you say.

Good call, plan B is an issue, i guess when you have a KPP like Hall there really isnt much versitility.. Your right if he dosent fire what do you do.. Thinking about him down back dosent do much for me, maybe the ruck, but id rather not either..
Look if we cant get smart and mix things up in the FWD line we not going to get back to the top of the comp, it is our main weapon.. If there is a plan B i would play him off the bench, use him as a 2nd or 3rd target, that would still demand the oppositons better defenders, it would take the pressure of him.. Otherwise your guess is as good as mine..

Gee I dunno about his lack of versatility. He can play up the ground or he can play close to goal - compared to Matthew Lloyd for instance he's extremely versatile. It seems no more a problem for/with Hall that it is for virtually every other key defender or forward at the Swans. I couldn't imagine LRT, Bolton or Barry kicking bags of goals in the same way that there is no option putting O'Loughlin down back.

On reflection, a key player who can be swung forward or back (as per Cornes, Hunter, Lucas, Pavlich) is something it would be nice to have wouldn't it? Saddington then Goodes now Richards were all tried as this pinch hitter but they all failed for different reasons.

Agree with the Saddington and Goodes (though Goodes is more of a centre/wingman/ruck rover) as pinch hitter, but not entirely convinced about Richards as this had to play down back as LRT virtually didn't play combined with injury to Leo Barry. Maybe if LRT plays a full season Richards could be used forward as he has shown that he can take a mark and kick goals.

I recall that Richards kicked 3 goals in a pre-season match and has kicked some goals with the limited opportunities he has had in the forward line.
I would like to fully judge him after he had more opportunities down forward.

Barry Hall... Discuss ... Good thread!:thumbsu:

We are spoilt as Swans fans:o
We tend to easily forget.... no way HERE IT IS!.. could have happened without BH!
One footballer who will go on to over achieve, I confess I didn't want him and happy to say I was wrong, he has overachieved already!

now we all know he is/was struggling 2007 ....new "rules" but has previously proven to be "coachable" elevation from ratbag to "leader" ....with good people around him.

NOT FINISHED YET, but tried to play to many games underdone and injured... some players can... he can't!!!! ... if "Cherry ripe" he can rip a whale teams neck off and apologise .

BUT we neeed a FF to step up instead of Magic and definitely a Dunkesque FB!

Sorry Roosey but when they attack they are beautiful ( why do they have to have their back against the wall first?... more early in 2008 pls!
