Im all for spreading the love and playing multiple positions - but i'd rather see Guthrie spend the next 2 years eating, sleeping and doing everything Boris while we have him here.

I know he can do the midfield stuff but I feel until I see Boris getting a MF run, Guthrie stays put.

GO Catters

His goal against the Hawks in the Prelim means I have to disagree with you there daz.

He hasn't fallen away nearly as much as some believe. Certainly not as much as our midfield group has over the past couple of years, anyway.

He has been played out of position. Simple as that. It's a bit rich to expect a bona fide midfielder to keep producing at the same level in a different part of the ground all of a sudden. Particularly at his age.

Jimmy will stay down back. Why would you waste a playmaker like him up forward.

Not sure if serious....o_O
Struggle to comprehend he's fallen away that much that he no longer wins clearances or contested footy but maybe he has?
I think it might be a long term consequence of the foot issue that he was carrying in 2012. Don't forget his pretty serious elbow injury too. Perhaps it's a case of ensuring player longevity. It is strange that a Brownlow winning midfielder can't get a look in any more.

How do you think Judd and Swan for example, would go playing in the backline next year? Much like Bartel I'd suggest. They'd have no trouble finding the ball but they'd be pretty poor defensively.

I agree. Still our second best midfielder, IMO.[/quote]

Can't disagree more.
Selwood easily best.
Ahead of Jimmy would NOW be Bundy, Duncan, SJ for starters.
Can't remember when Bartel was a mid in the last 3 yrs.

Third best, my mistake.

I can't remember him being a genuine midfielder in the last three years either. That's the problem. That's our problem. Bartel is so much better than Bundy and Duncan at the moment, it's not funny. They're still far too inconsistent. That's why we're beaten far too often in the midfield. It's remarkable that we managed to finish as high as we did last year.

Yep serious. I guess what I'm getting at is the tendency, at present, to have a creative player behind the ball, as many attacks are set up from half back. I acknowledge that he is a little 'loose', but that criticism can be levelled at many of the players who occupy this position . The only guy who seems to have mastered the caper is Enright. Experience counts for a lot too, and the ability to read the play, intercept an attack and use that fabled marking ability would be more useful in defence. (IMHO) It isn't so easy to take grabs up forward these days with zoning presses etc. Half back seems to be the chosen spot for players as they are 'squeezed' out of midfield duties. Another good thing about that is if we are winning he gets a holiday, If not , he is in the play where we want him
I guess the beauty of Jimmy is that we can have this conversation. Hell, let him play wherever he likes!

they had 3 of the most important finals to do so and he didn't end up playing midfield.
Personally, I felt heading into the Freo game that he would indeed play more minutes in the middle and nope, no good.

He might have. He's certainly lost some pace. I think he's still a viable target up forward, but difficult to find a spot for him otherwise.

In any case, people need to wake up to reality. Not all players go until they're 32. For some the end can come very quickly. He'll be 30 in December, so he isn't in his prime anymore. He might last 2 more years, might last 1, we don't know.

Just hoping he can provide some value up forward.
