In other news, player manager Paul Connors rejected suggestions that young midfielder James Bartel was set to walk out on Geelong.

After an eye-catching debut season in 2002, Bartel was reported to be unhappy at his lack of opportunities in the Geelong side this year.

After an ankle injury interrupted his pre-season, Bartel had to wait until round four to get his first senior chance.

"He will be at Geelong footy club next year . . . I would think that within a week or two he will be locked away," Connors said.

"He is a third-year player, so it was never about money. He is going to earn a lot less than (young teammate) James Kelly."

I hope that JB does decide to re-sign with Geelong, but as Catman said, we've been waiting for him to decide for over a month now and still no word.

check this out fellas, from today's Geelong Advertiser:

MEANWHILE, further good news for the Cats, the management of James Bartel has agreed in principle to a new deal which could be signed this week.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I just hope it's true. For **** sake Jimmy just sign the bloody contract.

Where's Bulldog_54. I'm sure she could give us the word straight from the horses mouth

Bartel?

Tell me more about this Bartel guy. Who do we have to trade to get him? Gee it would be a real hoot to secure a KPP from another team.....we have trouble keeping our own guns holstered.

I'll feel much better when JB signs on the dotted line.

Sorry for being so negative , but my bigest fear re Bartel is that Carlton will miss out on all the big name players they are chaseing and will convince J.B to go in the pre season draft and get him for nothing. Please don't let this happen G.F.C.

I've been saying all along that I reckon Bartel will stay at Geelong, and that he's milking us for the best deal. I still stick by that claim.

Where do I sign?
:D :D

GEELONG footballers James Bartel and David Clarke are training five days a week over the break to ensure they see more senior game time next season.

The pair sought out a personal trainer at the end of the season after being told of their shortcomings by coach Mark Thompson.

The two have baulked at signing new contracts with the club. Bartel only this week agreed to a new two-year deal, while Clarke has been offered a revised contract but is yet to accept it.

Where are those dancing bananas when you need them.

I can't believe that I actually gave up on JB early this week and conceded for the first time in 6 months that he was gone. Maybe I should have done it a bit earlier ;)

NEWS JUST IN:

Geelong midfielder James Bartel and ruckman Paul Chambers have reached agreement with the club on new contracts.

Bartel, who hails from Geelong, has played 24 games in his first two seasons with the club after being chosen by the Cats with the eighth pick in the 2001 AFL draft. Chambers was picked up by the Cats in the rookie draft and was elevated to the senior list in 2002.

GOOD WORK JB. How many are still left to re-sign? I know there is still Clarke

PS Where is Bull****_54 :D :D :D LOL

Good to see Paul Chambers has re-signed with the club as well as Bartel. Chambers really started to show some good signs in the second half of the season, glad to see the club decided to stick with him.
