Bassett???

Why can't Nathan Bassett get a game?

Last year he was as good as anyone playing for the Crows - this year, the Crows look sh!te and Bassett can't get a game.

Unless he is injured (and he hasn't been reported as such) it doesn't make sense.

I think he is in the squad this week for the showdown. But it has been wierd that seeing as the crows have a fairly weak defence, that the number 1 full back cant get a game!

I think it's a sign of the strength of our team that Bassett can't get a game. Quality defender like him and we still can't fit him into the 22.

Seriously, Crowell played really well at full back in the preseason and pushed Bassett out of his favoured position. He was tried elsewhere, up forward, but didn't quite have the impact, and was left out of the team for the start of the year. He has played well for Norwood, his local club, early this year and hopefully he'll get a game soon for the Crows. I can't see why he can't take up a back pocket or a back flank position, there is certainly room for him in my opinion.

I have a feeling this year Bassett will be the crows new discovery up Full forward!

But hasnt he been injured, and the crows didnt want to rush him in?


And apparently he played a ripper game for norwood last friday night. But kicked 2.4!

sorry, I don't think Nathan has been left out for any other reason than this. Andrew Crowell was given the role of Full Back during the Ansett Cup and Trial matches and he did exceptionally well. On what basis could you drop a player such as Crowell, he is doing really well? Nathan suffered only because Crowell was given a chance. To say backline is "weak" is wrong I believe. If you had chosen the word "young" yep sure I would agree with you, but, they have all played well. We have three inexperienced players there McGregor, Crowell and Shir, but they have all done a terrific job and deserve there places in the team. Mark Stevens is back to his wonderful self and is a real assett back there. Throw in the reliable Smart, Bickley and Hart (last week) I think it would be hard for anyone to get a game there. I think Nathan should be in the team, but I am not sure which one of those players you would drop for him. Nathan will get his chance this week, he might not get the full back job, but we could use him well off the bence or in the forward lines. I wish him well, but it is now up to him to take this chance by the throat and make the selectors look at him.
