how did everyone think he went today? personally i think he did a great job and will become a much needed player over the next few seasons.

More than did enough to hold his spot.
The younger guys this year have showed more than enough when given a chance, you'd have to ask yourself why Godfrey is still keeping the likes of Jones out of the team.

Godfrey held Bate out of the team last week and the only reason Godfrey is in the team is because he 'tries'. Bate & Bartram are just as willing as Godfrey but actually do something when they have the ball.
Chris Johnson, Jones & Bell are young players who would perform just as good as Godfrey and might even have a future. I would also pick; Read, Motlop & Ward as available 'experianced' players ahead of Godfrey.
Bate was held back a week so he could debut at the MCG...i can see the reasoning for this, it would be a great experience to debut at one of the greatest sporting arena's in the world in front of our fans. I think Neale doens't want to put in too many youngsters at the one time, which is also good reasoning at this stage of the year...but i feel that Jones will not be too far away from debuting.

agree, plus in their first seasons they can tire out towards the end. from memory bartram was one of the fittest players of the preseason, or maybe i jsut made that up, bate has had a good year and pre season under his belt and warnock is 22. if we're gonna bring in someone else to debut it will most likely be towards the end of the year. jones and dunn are the ones i can think of at the moment and buckley has been playing well for sandy but id imagine is still a fair way off debut.

Terrific debut by Bate and glad to see ND give him a decent run and in positions that he is suited in. Could become a real trump card for us with his apparent versatility.
