MELBOURNE is poised for internal war, with presidential wannabe Alan Stockdale challenging the authority of chief executive Peter Jackson.
Stockdale and Jackson, who was headhunted by the AFL to repair the football club, are understood to be diametrically opposed to the future direction of the stricken club.

Stockdale has formed a ticket, which includes businessman Chris Kelleher, to take over the club and has the support of a group of former players led by former captain David Neitz.

Asked about his relationship with Jackson last night, Stockdale said: "Well, obviously it needs a lot of work.

"Peter's had a period where he's been in total control of the club and he's going to have to come sooner or later to understand the CEO is accountable to the board.

I'm sure it's been blown up a fair bit by the Herald Sun, but this is kind of concerning. I love PJ as much as anyone, but is he a control freak? Or is Stockdale simply being too demanding and isn't the right fit?

Christopher Kelaher is meant to have a good head, and if Stockdale and he are being backed in by the likes of Neita and Paul Hopgood - maybe we'd do well to listen to both sides of this tale.

Sounds like the AFL gave Jackson the keys to the club and the board want them back.

I never bought into the "Jackson is the messiah and can do no wrong hype" but the board is in such a state of flux with members leaving and others joining plus a possible challenge/spill its hardly in any condition to claim to be the stable, considered voice.

Why David Neitz' abilities on the football field give him any credibility with regards to running a $40 million dollar business, I'll never know. Particularly given the spectacular train wreck that his life has been in most other respects.

Elaborate?

Played 300 games of footy, retired, works for Swisse?

In PJ we trust.

But seriously, I'm sick of these egomaniacs at board level destabilising the club. The only time in living memory I can remember our board not being a mess was when Jimmy took over.

We should run a BigFooty ticket.

Eh. They get 1 year together assuming Stockdale is elected and the board will reassess at the end of 2014.

What a joke of an article. I hate that rag with a passion.

Stockdale is right though, once the board gets its shit together Jackson will need to be accountable. I'm fine with him having a free rein for now as the board is in transition and has taken a back seat by the looks, but eventually the CEO must report to the Board.

Stockdale just ruled himself out of the presidential race if he's going to throw these kinds of things out in the air. Moron.

Taking advice from his buddy Jeff?

Personally I am not too concerned about this. Is Stockdale actually a part of the board at the moment?

I wish Neitz would get involved. Love the great man, but we've heard next to nothing from him since he retired. Probably in the top 5 greatest Demons ever.

I reckon it's a bit of a media blow-up.

However, the message for anyone wanting to be involved in the club in any capacity going forward has to be "we must be 100% united, and don't **** it up".

Also, since when has it been ok to use the word 'wannabe' in a newspaper article? FFS.

Since journalists are not journalists anymore. Glorified bloggers at best. What the **** are they teaching in journalism programs at university these days?

its about who you know, trust me

That's putting it mildly.

As I always say, our mainstream media is chiefly about manufacturing bad news now, not honestly reporting the news.

Since journalists are not journalists anymore. Glorified bloggers at best.

Very true. Must be pretty easy work these days, being a writer for the Murdoch or the Rinehart press, just make shit up off the top of your head and get paid for it.

All of us who post on Bay 13 are very envious.

this is the most important thing. We need unity, if you have an issue approach people directly don't make public statements that put the club under scrutiny

Well PJ is the paid employee & Stockdale (if he held the position) honorary figure head.

It's no brainier for me at least in the short to mid term that its more important to have the best CEO rather than a known identity leading the club.
I Agree. When I first heard about stockdale, I was uncertain, now I'm of the opinion that he can go dabble in Auto-fellatio.
