MELBOURNE is poised for internal war, with presidential wannabe Alan Stockdale challenging the authority of chief executive Peter Jackson.
Stockdale and Jackson, who was headhunted by the AFL to repair the football club, are understood to be diametrically opposed to the future direction of the stricken club.
Stockdale has formed a ticket, which includes businessman Chris Kelleher, to take over the club and has the support of a group of former players led by former captain David Neitz.
Asked about his relationship with Jackson last night, Stockdale said: "Well, obviously it needs a lot of work.
"Peter's had a period where he's been in total control of the club and he's going to have to come sooner or later to understand the CEO is accountable to the board.

I'm sure it's been blown up a fair bit by the Herald Sun, but this is kind of concerning. I love PJ as much as anyone, but is he a control freak? Or is Stockdale simply being too demanding and isn't the right fit?
Christopher Kelaher is meant to have a good head, and if Stockdale and he are being backed in by the likes of Neita and Paul Hopgood - maybe we'd do well to listen to both sides of this tale.
