Frodo

Scary thought.

I'd prefer to keep both Cox and Gardiner and play them flexibly ie where the match-up looks best on a given day. I thought (although I wasn't really concentrating on it) that Cox did better in the ruck against Burton on Sunday, while, for example, Gardy might go better against a Primus or a White. This may change over time. Despite what people have said about the influence of the ruck declining (and the bounce situation also affects this), I think it's ok to retain the big guys as long as they're strong and mobile.

Gardy looks pretty damn good to me as a forward option (in lots of positions up there as he is mobile, can lead, mark AND kick straight). I don't yet know where Cox will develop his second-string to the ruck position - forward or back.

As for the midfield, I agree, although I think Humm may well develop into a very useful "in and under" player.

Frodo,
I am a Big Eagles fan. I wouldn't trade Gardy 4 ne1. But also I don't think Freo would give up their 2 best players. The Essendon players are good but won't get ne better but Gardy will !.

how old is gardiner? 22?

there's no way I'd trade him. he's strong, mobile and aggressive. he is right up there in contested marks statistics. he will be very important in the years to come.

cox looks good but he has some way to go. if we find ourselves with a problem like carlton have got at the moment (ie two quality ruckmen) we can hopefully develop one or the other as a key position player.

knowing our luck with injuries if we trade one the other would be injured in no time.

we haven't had a great ruckman, lets not trade the best prospect we've got (best prospect since laurie keene- could have been anything that guy).

Are you people all nuts??? Gardiner is in the untouchable bracket with Wirrpunda and Cousins!!! Trade and Gardiner should never be said in the same sentence. Why not keep both anyway, Cox before he came through to join the Eagles was apparently a pretty good CHF in the WAFL and we all know Gardiner can kick goals. Keep em both. But if we had to trade one then its a no brainer...
