Last night sat on the front verandah and watched the street go half under water with the flash floods in SE Melbourne.....Decided to dry things up a bit so I gave the Midura Desert Ale a big nudge, had been a Christmas present from an outlaw and had been sitting in the fridge since the festive season.

Poured into chilled handle..not much of a head, detected a slight scent of sandalwood..first tasting cold and crisp and hit the spot .. smooth as..nice lager taste.. had me cracking the next one in no time at all..

The coopers vintage ale gets stronger with age as well! Some guys can store them for over a year before drinking.. Too strong for me IMO i cant go past Sparkling Ale. The best Aussie beer and can get it for good prices quite often.
They dont get stronger with age. They mature in taste. Smoothen out so to speak.

Once brewed and bottled thats as strong as they get in alcohol %

Purchased another half d from the otherside of town...first 2 of stubbies opened were pretty ordinary and no where near what I first sampled...So I rang little creatures and complained .. meeting with their representative this Monday afternoon.

Have been drinking a fair bit of Matilda Bay Brewerys offerings lately.

Fat Yak Pale Ale - Very nice beer, has been a favourite for a while. Not usually a big fan of Pale Ales, but this is excellent. Strong fruity/herby flavours up first balanced nicely with a big dose of hoppy goodness.

Alpha Pale Reserve - Only sold in 4 packs, but is quite good. Probably a bit of a stretch calling it a pale ale, as it is quite dark. A bit hoppier than Fat Yak and not quite as drinkable, but still very tasty and enjoyable.

Long Shot Special Reserve - Interesting one here. It's a dark ale created by their head brewmaster in collaboration with some coffee expert. Roasted coffee beans are added to the brewing process at some stage and the result is pretty damned good. A dark, bitter ale with great hints of suprise, surprise, coffee. Again, only sold in 4 packs but definitely worth trying if you like your dark ales.

Big Helga - A German style lager which is very drinkable and quite refreshing. It is however, also on the boring side, especially when compared with Matilda Bays other offerings. But as I mentioned, very drinkable and goes down well on a hot day without leaving you feeling like you've eaten a loaf of bread.

Also tried one from Mildura Brewery called Storm Cloudy Ale. Not what I was expecting in what was being marketed as a cloudy ale, as it was quite citrusy and pale in colour. It was however, a nice beer and I'd happily recommend it.
