I would just like to express my thoughts on what it has been like to be a Cats supporter. I have followed the Cats all my life, I am now 32. I think we have been as good as anyone over my lifetime. 2 flags 7 GFs 2 pre season premierships, 3 brownlows. Some memorable matches including the 89 finals series, 94 finals series, the Riccardi after siren game, the 2007 finals, the win over the Hawks this year and of course this years finals series. Throw in Gary Ablett Snr, Garry Hocking, Gary Ablett Jnr and Joel Selwood and it adds up to a great team to follow. So I would just like to say thanks Cats you are such a big part of my life and I am so proud to follow you.

P.S. It is a great feeling to be premiers again I cant sop smiling

The recent history has been a close run thing. Imagine (even though it hurts) that we had lost the 2009 GF by 1 point. Our club would be called handbaggers, underachievers, chokers Blah blah blah ...... forever!

St Kilda were stiff - our boys knew it just had to happen and so did Bomber. So a game they might have lost in the nineties was won. 2007 was for us oldies who can remember 1963 AND all the crap from 64 - 06. 2009 was for the players and the younger supporters.

What an achievement.

Plus I kind of like being able to say I barrack for a club that has a great culture, plays country kids, and even in the gloom of late last century has always played exhilarating footy.

Funny thing is I think the foundation is so good that there may be one or two more cups if we have a good deal with the injuries. Who would have thunk.

One of the best things about the last decade is that we are set up for the long-term.

We have paid off all the debts and reinvested into our own infrastructure.

We are spending more on our match committee, and as such reaping the rewards.

We are making greater revenue through more exposure, leading to more memberships and merchandise sold.

We will have a whole new generation of Geelong supporters that we can expect to sign on as members in the next 10 to 15 years.

All of this is a credit to the powers that be; Costa, Cook, Thompson, Wells, Harley and so on.

Nice to see a positive thread amongst all the negativity that is flooding the board this week. :thumbsu:

LOVE the Cats! For this club to turn around the fortunes of the past several decades into such a power in the AFL makes me soooooo proud. I used to walk into work after another loss and have colleagues laugh at my team. NOW, I have pure adulation from others with my team and their fortunes. It has been soooooo good to have other supporters marvel at MY team for a change!!!! And me, I am not cocky, I just take it all on and smile at the fact the the Cats are still THE team to beat. Again, I can spend all summer smiling, looking forward to what another year will bring. GO GEEEEES!

I see our success now as being payment for all the near misses from 89-95, as well as the utter bleakness of the Ayres and immediate post-Ayres era. I like that the club is being financially managed properly at last, but I am never going to expect a season of on-field success. They have to make their own fortune on-field, I'll just barrack for them regardless.

They say good things happen to people who wait, I am living proof like most of you supporting this great club it has been an emotional ride over the years. It has taken 10 years of blood, sweat , and tears to reach greatness and a culture we as supporters can be proud of.

Totally on the ball SJ! :thumbsu:
Agree 100%

Hahahaha
My little girl is and already she tells everyone GO CATS!!!
Mine too! She gets upset whenever someone says any other team.
Funny thing, on grnad final day I said to her. "It's grand final day sweety. And the cats are playing" to which she replied "Well they always play on grand final day"

Sure she has no idea what she was saying, but as far as she knows, we do!

Have just taught her that Jimmy wears number 3, and because she is 3, he is now her favourite player.

I went to high school during the disastrous 70's and well remember copping ridicule for my support. I didn't care. I also remember spruking the Cats in front of 100 Little Athletics kids before the failures of 94 and 95 and having to cop their comments the week after the GF. I wouldn't trade any of it to support another team. The last 3 years have been superb. A great team and great club with awesome players.

If you think the highway from Melbourne is a problem try Bass Straight or the Hume Hwy. But whenever I can make it its worth it.

In 2007 I had 2 grandkids over to watch the GF and this year it was 4. It just keeps getting better. The 3 year olds recognises them on TV. My wife of 8 years has converted from NRL and is now more fanatical than me. Life is sweet.

It can't of been that bad. We got to watch Ablett and the like playing. Making 4 grand finals spread out like that was no mean feat.

Having said that, I've never been so content as a Geelong supporter as I am right now. I can't wait to just sit back and watch the last couple of years of this team which has brought so much joy. Unlike 2009 where there was no relief up until the final siren, or 2007 when we realised we were premiers finally, next year I will just soak up every game..
