He's done a full pre-season. Hasn't performed well in any intra-club matches, nor in Sydney.
He's a trier, but I think his limited ability may put him in serious danger of delisting at years' end.

He can win the footy ok , but seems lost when he has it. I reckon its more that he is a poor decision maker rather than a terrible kick. But he does turn it over alot. To be he looks like he plays with very little confidence. It is definately make or break this season for him. I havn't written him off but the kid needs to believe in himself more.
He's not up to it. In other words - he needs to step up, or else. He should develop into a stoppage player at best, we need to unearth a few stoppage players for the future, and stoppage players make creative midfielders look good.

Yeah Ben Davies is a good runner and natural needs to work on his skills a bit gives a go all the time but he needs to find belief in himself otherwise he could get the axe this season which would be so unfortunate for him.
A real trier who probably isn't up to it considering the talent our midfield needs and his liabilities, being his ball skills, aren't up to scratch. He does have something that you like in a kid though, being his determination to play successful footy and he also can find it.
I put him down as my breakthrough player of the season, simply because I think he can step up this year and force his way into the senior side. He did it a couple of time last year with great VFL form, but limited opportunities saw him unable to retain a place.

Interesting all this talk of Davies being a trier. Reminds me of the former fringe player Dane Swan. Hopefully Davies does step up.

what did u think of him tonite?
I thort he indifferent lol, did a few good things (i am probs biased cose i know him) but a few things he reli struggled at, for example playing on the small forwards!

he struggled he might of had a bad night could probably play better.lets see how the season unfolds before calling for peoples heads after one game

I doubt that. There were plenty like myself who thought he would eventually make our best 22. I doubt anyone had him to be one of our best player including the club. I thought he would be a small defender who could go forward at best. The player he has become would be farther ahead than even the club would have imagined.
He has showed promising signs over his 2 years at the club. He had been unlucky to get dropped a few times when he did. When he has played seniors he has showed something even if little compared to blokes who don't get near the ball when given the chance.

Davies wasn't given much of a chance last year and deserved another year on the list to turn it around. While I agree he doesn't seem up to it he in no way deserved to be delisted last year. In fact I don't recall anyone calling for his head.
Of course it is. But Toomey seems to take offence at the mere mention that anybody at the club will go at the end of the year.
Toommy was correct in that one pre-season match doesn't define the whole season. I'm not going to write off anyone at the moment. But Ben Davies won't be a sensational player by any means. It's a make or break season coming up for Davies, he's going to have to pull something out of the bag to remain on the list next year, simple as that.

So lets not keep him for twenty years.. lets keep him just long enough to be sure he won't make it... if as you say, you believe "he doesn't seem up to it"... stop sitting on your hands.. and call a spade a spade... Davies is not a footballers shoelace.... out he goes is my vote!!!
