Theres no point risking Rocca, with an extra week on top of the 1 week, he has copped for a soft shepherd ..

Its time to unleash our weapon ... BEN REID

I think we ought to sit Rocca for 1 week, and drop Brodie Holland.

Then bring in Ben Reid and Medhurst and really try to stretch their defence with multiple scoring options.

you are kidding yourself if you think that reid will be able to emulate what rocca does on bad day (at this stage). He needs to string a few of the same games for willi before getting his debut. he is the youngest player in the comp ffs.Reid should only play if the both rocca and cloke are playing, just to take the pressure of him.

Why not. Give the kid a taste. There's not going to be a great deal of pressure on him because he knows that once Rocca is back he'll be back at Willi so he can just go out and take some risks and see what happens.

Even if he doesn't do a thing it'd still be better than Rocca against Melbourne and we almost won that game.

I'm glad Malthouse doesn't think like you. He has said many times that if you are good enough, you are old enough. A player like Marty Clarke can come in barely having played football for a year and have the impact he had, then Reid can come in now and have an impact. It's because they have fantastic talent which shines through. Obviously you won't expect him to have the same impact at Rocca, but then no one else at the club can come in and have the same impact.

Rocca on a bad day? I guarantee you if Reid comes in, he will do more than Rocca did against Melbourne. Guarantee.

If Rocca does choose not to contest it and takes the week off then what are our other options? Rusling is still out.

I think what they'd do is bring Bryan into the side and have him and Fraser alternating out from the goal square and ruck with Fraser spending the most time at FF.

As for Holland...I'm cool for him missing this week as I haven't been overly impressed with his efforts so far. Not sure if Medhurst is the right call as we're in a great position of having so many viable options and its hard to drop these youngsters back when they're playing so well.

Stephen Hawking would have had more impact that day.

If Ben Reid is ready then play him, but only if he is ready. Don't use the potential Rocca suspension to play him prematurely.

You are kidding yourself if you think Rocca will have an impact from the stands when he's out for two weeks.

Who are you suggesting we bring in for him? Or are you just pinning your hopes on getting him off at the tribunal?

Some of you guys have short memories. Brodie was one of our better players against Melbourne (25 posessions) and certainly wasn't terrible on Sat night (except for the brain fade he had on the bench!).

Ben ried is a freak i played against him in a under 18's comp when he was 15 and he won the league medal i can only imagine how good he is now hope he gets a crack at it this week why has it taken this long

someone with some perspective!!

Sounds like plan! Has worked for teams like the doggies at Docklands. If Rocca out, Cloke, Medhurst, Didak, Davis, Thomas, Bryan! Maybe Brad Dick off the IC?

i would bring bryan in, i think exposing yound reid would be to much to ask of him and the team. We can only afford to have so many debutants. I think we are at our limit. no point in losing games, just for the sake of blooding an 18 yo. We have blooded enough players this year, let him string a few together before we chuck him in the deep end

I was a big Reid fan pre-draft and still am.

I don't know how his form has been this year (how's he going by the way?), but he struck me as a development player, that would take a fair bit of time in the gym and the 2's.

No point exposing him too early if he's not ready.

If Rocca's appeal succumbs, I would bring Medhurst in. He can play taller than his inches, he's a reliable kick, and he can be a match-winner on his day. Ben Reid has plenty of time to make his name at Collingwood, so he doesn't need to be fast tracked this year, and we can least afford to play too many kids at once.

Unless his form warrants selection, ill be more than happy to sit him in the reserves all year and let his body mature. Is still extremely skinny.

play him when he is ready, simple as that.we have shown that we can play undermanned even if it comes to that.

dale thomas one out in the square:D

I think if he's going to get a game this year, the game against the Hawks is the one.

One of the question marks raised is his lack of bulk but as the Hawks are still only a relatively young side they don't have as many mature bodies as a team like St Kilda or Geelong to knock the kid around.

If his form has warranted it, which IIRC it has, give the kid a taste of the big time.:thumbsu:

Would be a good time bring him in if they dont decide to fight the Rocca charge, we need another tall there considering their tall backline.
