Now that all the drafts have been taken care of it will be interesting to see who the VFL clubs go after to boost their lists.

Bendigo in particular needs some much needed experience after losing Doering, Blumfield and Beasy this year. Maybe someone like Luke Livingston from Carlton (a Bendigo Boy) may be looked at.

Any other suggestions??

Unlikely, as he is one of the several players Port Melbourne have signed for 2007. :)

Has Justin Maddern re-signed at this stage?

He signed a while ago.

Skipworth has however

Bendigo recruits discarded Crow

Bendigo Advertiser
Thursday, 21 December 2006

THE Metricon Bendigo Bombers have pounced on delisted Adelaide midfielder Hayden Skipworth after he was overlooked in last week's AFL pre-season draft.

The Bombers yesterday announced the signing of Skipworth for the 2007 VFL season.

The recruitment of Skipworth, who played 44 games for the Crows in five years, is the Bombers' first key signing this pre-season.

'‘I think it's a pretty significant effort to have played 44 games for Adelaide, considering you have Brett Burton, Mark Ricciuto, Simon Goodwin, Andrew McLeod and Tyson Edwards in their midfield," Bombers coach Matthew Knights said.

‘‘He is a high-quality player and that's why we targeted him." There had been strong speculation in the lead-up to the pre-season draft on December 12 the Kangaroos would use pick three on the 23-year-old.

However, Skipworth was overlooked, with the Roos instead opting for Ben Ross from the Gippsland Power.

Skipworth was training with the Port Power ahead of the pre-season draft.

‘‘I was very surprised the Kangaroos didn't take him in the pre-season draft, so we're pleased to get him," Knights said.

‘‘I thought if the Kangaroos didn't take him another club would, so it was really surprising that he missed out, and it would have been remiss of me in my duties if I didn't at least make a phone call to him.

‘‘He is a 23-year-old, he is hungry to play super footy for the Bendigo Bombers and he really wants to improve his game next year.

‘‘He was best on ground in the SANFL grand final this year, so he comes with good pedigree and good form." Skipworth will go some way to filling the void created by the departures of the experienced duo of Jordan Doering and Justin Blumfield, who spent time in the Bombers' midfield this year.

‘‘We're earmarking him to play in the midfield, but he can also play wing or forward," Knights said.

‘‘He is creative, he has a big work ethic, he runs hard, he breaks lines hard, so he is going to play an integral role in our midfield.

‘‘Coming from a fantastic football program, which Adelaide obviously has, he's going to come well-drilled and his character is first class." Skipworth, who played six games for the Crows this year, will be one of the Bombers' Melbourne-based players.

He is one of almost 30 players the Bombers have signed at this stage.

The Bombers had their final training session for the year last night with a 3 km time-trial at Lake Weeroona. They will resume training in a fortnight.

Source?

Bendigo will be the most improved next yr like Essendon ;)
The best source possible :D

Did Bendigo have a pretty bad midfield or a few left? Interesting to see them add Skipworth and Cloke to the midfield, would have thought Essendon would have a couple of youngsters coming through

Blumfield and Doering have retired, and our injuries caused Bendigo greif as well. As far as Bendigo listed players go our only decent midfielder really is Rosa. Next year they will well and truely improve and be a flag chance depending on essendon's injury list.

I think he'll (Skipworth) be a quality pick-up for the B-GO bombers, look at his credentials;

Played with and being involved with one of the best programs in the AFL.
SANFL premiership & Jack Oaty medalist (awarded for bog') in a g'f.
Experience & leadership qualities should be undeniable.
Whether he gets a second chance or not at an afl club will have that hunger to succeed wweek in week out.

And as much as being a proud croweater (anti crows & port though !!) the vics will get one back after all these years of vfl boys & afl delisted lads heading to the sanfl. So if he's good enough to play VFL rep footy you'll get a bonus there !!

Two awesome recruits for the Bombers, i too was very surprised that Skipworth didn't get picked up in the PSD!

I know we have also signed former Ess rookie Tim O'Keefe, but who are some of the other 30 players we have signed and which players were given the axe??

Skipworth will be one of the best players in the VFL next season I would go as far to say that he will win the Liston in 2007. And be with Essendon in 2008

Can anyone fill me in on how Joel West went with the BB in 2006?? Has he got the ability to win a side a game??? Apparently he has signed with Bacchus Marsh in the Ballarat League!!!

Not up to VFL senior standard but was reasonable in the seconds.
I wouldnt say he will win games on his own but he should be a very good pick up .
