Just wondering if anyone can inform me on the situation with the Bendigo Bombers and Essendon affiliate. Are we going to go it alone? or stick with it, as im not sure it is working for both parties.I will stand corrected if otherwise, I for one would love to see the "Essendon ressies" again:confused:

Thanks for that, I would also like to know what supporters think? Do we need to go alone( use it as a launching pad for experimental players such as Quinn). And is there any local Bendigo people unhappy with the Bombers at the moment.

I really can't see what we get out of the affiliation to be honest.

I was disappointed to hear we were staying with Bendigo.

There was a reason we stayed with them. We had a contract until the end of 2009. I can say that things would have to improve greatly next year for us to sign on again but one hurdle we do have is the VFL have the power over who gets a license to play and they are on record this year saying they will not simply be allowing all the AFL clubs to abandon alignments and field reserves sides at the drop of a hat.

Reasonably happy with Bendigo Bombers. Because of Essendon's injury list this year, sometimes only 2 Essendon listed players were in the Bendigo team. Which is why the team got some floggings. Only 6 games were played in Bendigo. All others were played in Melbourne except 1 in Ballarat. So no reason you couldn't watch your 2's (what was left of them) in action. 3 home games were actually played at Windy Hill. Delisting some crocks at Essendon would help both teams.

Okay for Collingwood. An exception I guess.

If we have to remain alligned with a VFL club i would rather it be with a club in Melbourne.

Id be putting my money on us being either a stand-alone or with another VFL club.

I would say the contract is still water-tight, if you believe the public statements emanating from both Peter Jackson and from the Bendigo board.

What disappoints me greatly is the general lack of support Essendon supporters have collectively for the affiliation - in that it would appear that the supporters of the club don't give enough of a shit to back the kids playing for Bendigo, no matter who those players might be.

How do I know this - because like ant, I do attend Bendigo matches on a very regular basis..and the amount of red and black I see at the matches is appalling to say the least. Thankfully there is a genuine small band of us who do go along and are pretty much in the inner sanctum.

It's not hard to go along..as Old Slugger mentions, the matches aren't all in Bendigo (although I highly recommend making the trip up the Calder - QEO is a very picturesque venue and it has lights for night footy, a rare commodity in the VFL).

How hard is it to get to Port Melbourne, Sandringham, Box Hill, Cranbourne, Williamstown, Werribee, Coburg, Preston? It can't be that hard if you live in Melbourne.

It's hardly easy.

It's a commitment of an entire afternoon, of which I, like I'm sure most people, get two free a week.

On the weekend I'll spend an evening or an afternoon watching Essendon play, and the rest of that time with my girlfriend, attempting to continue some kind of social life or relaxing for a change.

In my uni days I went down a bit, but these days, there just isn't time.

How about Bendigo get rid of some of there crocks?? Would help both teams..

i am hearing that bendigo's off-field situation is improving. the new president has actually hit the ground running and getting things done. there was a big issue brewing that would have seen them lose the right to use QEO - which would effectively have ended the whole venture - but it has been resolved. professionalism is, thankfully, on the increase. Incidentally, not all issues lie with bendigo - some are problems at essendons end. Hickmott apparently has been frustrated that his development role is stymied due to funding concerns at essendons management level. Hickmott wanted a Bendigo player or two to train with essendon this preseason, but the club initially baulked at the weekly payment they would be obligated to pay! well, thats the story i heard.

i have since heard that this has been rectified and at least one youngster will be making the move down to melbourne for the summer. just waiting for the AFL to approve the application to let him (or them) train.

Crameri trained in melbourne with the essendon list this morning, so they've obviously sorted it out. i'm very happy to see the kid get a chance - he can actually play pretty well. And if we can show the local Bendigo boys that there actually IS a potential pathway from Bendigo to Essendon, they may be more inclined to try their luck with Bendigo than with Golden Square / Sandhurst etc.
