Sandy 13-21 def Bendigo 11-9
There was 10 players from Melbournes list playing for Sandy compared to 4 from the Essendon list playing for Bendigo. It was a bit of a scrappy game played in windy conditions.
Riemers played very well , kept Picket to around 5 posessions until he got smashed in a Paul Johnson tackle in the third quarter. Got a bit of the footy himself and used it well. Didnt come back on but he seemed to recover from the knock pretty well. He will probably have very sore ribs tommorrow.
Charters took a few good grabs and was pretty good in defence as the defenders where under a bit of pressure at various stages. You could notice the difference in fitness between the new rookies and established AFL players as Danny struggled to keep with Johnson at times in the third quarter when he was on him but he never gave up and kept going in the last quarter.
McKinnon won the ruck duels against Johnson and Melbournes rookie ruckman in Neaves. His work around the ground was pretty good. Overall a good game.
Hocking was close to our best , had 26 touchs. Played at half forward in the first half and was very good. Moved into the midfield in the second half and continued to get the footy. He tackes well and set up two of our goals with a creative handball and a good foot pass. Very good game.
As for the Bendigo players , Skippy was going ok until he got crunced in a tackle early on. Spent the rest of the game on the bench icing his left knee and left ankle.
Cloke was good all day, made a few typical Cloke mistakes but was good. Okeefe did some nice things but struggled at times when Sandy where really pumping the ball forward a lot. Jolley started a little slowly but started to find his touch as the game went on.
