Excellent to hear that Laycock played well! We all know he has the talent, but we have become justifiably frustated with his lacklustre efforts on the field. Ive been a massive fan of Jetta after we drafted him and I look forward to seeing him play against the Swans next week. Its players like him that we need to be getting game time into. Love Reimers grunt also and expect him to slot straight back into the 22 next week. Hope Pears comes into the team.
Good to see the boys get a win. Saw their game on ABC a couple of weeks back and they were shocking.

Good to see the Bombers have a win.

Noticed this in the reserves match report:

BEST:
Bendigo Bombers: Wanganeen Bristow Ayton Young Harrington Thomson
Frankston: Collins Dunne Barker Corp McCall Keely

Anyone know anything about this guy? Any relation to Gavin?

4 goals from the two ruckmen, bonus.

I'll wait for a fellow member to post a report or wait for the one on essendonfc.com.au before I get too carried away with Laycock's game.

Nice to see Jetta, Reimers and Laycock in the best. I hope they all play next week. Jetta will own Sydney with his pace.

Aslo Pears in the best he could be back but if Fletch comes back he might not get a game.

His time was up at the end of last year and he should have pulled the pin.

2 year contract was absolute madness and the club and Sheeds were negligent in actually giving him that.

We should have phased out JJ along with Bolton, Heff and Pev a lot quicker than what we have.

100% agree. Some might say his time was up at the end of '06.

Bombers dig deep
12/05/2008

THE Metricon Bendigo Bombers fans endured a roller-coaster ride as they watched their team win Saturday night’s clash with Frankston Dolphins under the QEO lights.
At half-time they cheered loudly as the Bombers went in to the rooms leading by 40 points.

Bendigo’s pressure, pace and one per cent plays was outstanding in the first hour of the contest.

The first quarter included goals by Jason Johnson, No.1 ruckman Jason Laycock, and also by first-game players Steven Stroobants and Nathan Meade.

The Bombers added another four goals in the second quarter as Tom Bellchambers, Kyle Reimers, Jon Coghlan and Laycock were on target.

Frankston’s sole goal was by Justin Berry on the run from 55 m in the 14th minute of the term.

Momentum swung dramatically in the third quarter as the Dolphins swept forward in waves.

Frankston’s intensity and run was far greater and the forwards began to win a lot more contests.

The Dolphins slammed on five consecutive goals, four of them in five minutes, to turn up the heat.

Bellchambers was freed in a marking contest and booted Bendigo’s only goal of the term.

By three quarter-time the red and black led by just nine points.

Frankston’s run rolled on in the last as it scored four consecutive goals to lead 80-65 at the 22nd minute.

By that time the Dolphins had scored 9.5 to 1.4 in the second half as the Bombers’ hopes nosedived.

Then it was the Bombers’ time to turn the contest on its head.

A Stewart Crameri mark and goal from the 50 m arc was the spark that the Bombers needed.

Bendigo won the next centre break and capitalised as Tom Bellchambers marked and passed to Jarrod Atkinson for a goal.

At the 24 minute mark the Dolphins led 80-77 as play see-sawed between the half-back lines.

Atkinson was in the play again as he swooped on the loose ball after a team-mate’s high kick from the swimming pool wing and goaled on the run to put Bendigo back in front.

Somehow the Bombers had scored three goals in eight minutes, and just as importantly halted the Dolphins’ wave of attacks.

Minutes later and the Bombers celebrated a dramatic victory.

Medals were struck to mark the 150th year of Australian Football celebrations.

Best afield honours and the Bendigo medal went to Jason Laycock.

The medallist for Frankston was Paul Kennedy.

Victorious Bombers coach Adrian Hickmott said there was a lot to be learnt, and gained from the match.

‘‘We went in at half-time leading by eight goals, a position that a lot of these boys had not been in for a long time.

‘‘Maybe the boys thought we would just take off from where we left off,’’ Hickmott said of the mental approach leading into the third quarter.

‘‘Frankston really lifted its run and pressure in the third quarter, and we dropped away.

‘‘To the boys’ credit they really dug deep and found something late in the game.’’

Hickmott said the camaraderie and willingness to help one another between the Essendon-listed and Bendigo-based players really shone through.

‘‘At 15 points down late in the game, they could have thought that’s it, all over.

‘‘Our fitness was a huge factor in the last 10 minutes of the game, as was the determination to keep on going.’’

Hickmott said the Bombers would gain a massive amount of belief from the victory.

‘‘Our work without the ball was really important,’’ Hickmott said of Bendigo’s play on building a big lead in the first half.

‘‘It’s those one per centers - tackles, shepherds, smothers, knock ons - that all add up.

‘‘They may not be noticed by a lot of the fans, but they are so important.’’Hickmott said Laycock’s play - in the ruck or up forward -was outstanding.

Leroy Jetta marked his first game since a hamstring injury by winning a lot of the football on the wing and across half-back, and Kyle Reimers also provided a lot of rebound.

A first-year player in the VFL, Blair Holmes was again among Bendigo’s best, along with Tayte Pears and Stewart Crameri.

The senior debut by Meade and Stroobants, a late call-up for Brent Hartigan who was battling an ankle injury, was also one to remember.

The Bombers will be back on home turf at the QEO for this Sunday’s clash with Williamstown.][/QUOTE]

Sensational that Laycock won the medal. Maybe it (being dropped) was the rocket he needed? Do you bring him back this week or leave him there for another week with Bendigo to make sure the fire is well and truly alight?

Great that Jetta & Reimers got through unscathed. Did Lonergan get through the game?
